Boater’s World Manufacturing Group in Chocowinity, NC is seeking a detail‑oriented Quality Control Inspector to join our boat manufacturing operation. You will inspect boats, components, and processes to ensure quality before progressing in production or shipment.

This hands‑on role works with Assembly, Lamination, Gelcoat, Final Finish, Engineering, and other teams to identify defects, document concerns, and verify corrections are completed.

Boater’s World Manufacturing Group is seeking a detail-oriented Quality Control Inspector to join our boat manufacturing operation in Chocowinity, North Carolina.

The Quality Control Inspector is responsible for inspecting boats, components, and manufacturing processes to ensure they meet established quality standards before moving to the next stage of production or being released for shipment.

This is a hands‑on production‑floor position that works closely with Assembly, Lamination, Gelcoat, Final Finish, Engineering, and other manufacturing teams. The inspector will identify defects, document quality concerns, communicate findings to production leadership, and verify that required corrections have been completed.

Previous boat manufacturing experience is preferred, but candidates with quality inspection experience in automotive, RV, powersports, composites, manufacturing, or other durable‑goods environments are encouraged to apply.

What You’ll Do

Quality Inspection

• Perform visual and functional inspections of boats, components, and assemblies throughout the manufacturing process.
• Inspect completed boats prior to final release and shipment.
• Verify workmanship, fit, finish, appearance, and functionality against established quality standards.
• Inspect fiberglass and gelcoat surfaces for cracks, chips, scratches, voids, print‑through, finish concerns, and other visible defects.
• Inspect installed hardware, seating, consoles, hatches, doors, trim, accessories, and other components.
• Verify components are properly installed, aligned, secured, and functioning as intended.
• Inspect mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and rigging installations as applicable.
• Use checklists, specifications, drawings, work instructions, and other quality documentation during inspections.
• Perform measurements and basic testing as required.
• Identify workmanship or material concerns before products advance through production.

Final Boat Inspection

• Conduct detailed inspections of completed boats before they are released for shipping preparation.
• Inspect exterior and interior areas for quality, appearance, completeness, and functionality.
• Verify required components, hardware, accessories, labels, and other items are present and correctly installed.
• Check compartments, seating areas, consoles, storage areas, decks, and other finished areas.
• Verify corrective work has been completed before approving a boat to move forward.
• Help ensure finished boats meet company quality expectations before leaving the manufacturing facility.

Defect Identification & Documentation

• Identify and document defects, nonconforming materials, incomplete work, and other quality concerns.
• Clearly communicate inspection findings to production employees, supervisors, Quality, and other appropriate team members.
• Accurately record defects and inspection results using established quality systems and documentation.
• Provide clear information regarding the location and nature of identified concerns.
• Track open quality items and verify corrections have been completed.
• Escalate significant or recurring quality concerns to Quality and Production leadership.
• Maintain accurate inspection and quality records.

Corrective Action & Production Support

• Work directly with production teams to communicate quality expectations and inspection findings.
• Verify repairs, rework, and corrective actions before releasing products to the next production stage.
• Assist with identifying potential causes of recurring defects.
• Partner with Production, Engineering, and Quality leadership to help address recurring quality concerns.
• Provide feedback regarding manufacturing processes that may be contributing to defects.
• Support root‑cause analysis and corrective‑action activities as assigned.
• Help identify opportunities to reduce defects, rework, scrap, and warranty concerns.
• Promote a culture of quality throughout the manufacturing operation.

Process & Quality Standards

• Follow established inspection procedures and quality‑control requirements.
• Maintain consistent inspection standards across products and production areas.
• Help ensure production teams understand applicable quality expectations.
• Participate in quality meetings, audits, and improvement activities as assigned.
• Assist with updating inspection checklists and quality documentation when required.
• Monitor recurring defects and communicate trends to appropriate leadership.
• Support new product introductions and process changes by providing inspection feedback.

Safety & Housekeeping

• Follow all facility safety procedures while performing inspections throughout production areas.
• Maintain awareness of moving equipment, tools, boats, materials, and other manufacturing hazards.
• Safely use measuring and inspection equipment.
• Maintain organized inspection tools, documentation, and work areas.
• Wear required PPE when entering or working in designated production areas.
• Immediately report unsafe conditions or hazards

Requirements

• Previous experience in quality inspection, quality control, manufacturing, boat building, automotive, RV, powersports, or another related production environment.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to identify workmanship and product defects.
• Ability to evaluate fit, finish, appearance, installation, and overall product quality.
• Ability to read and follow specifications, drawings, checklists, work instructions, and quality standards.
• Ability to use basic measuring and inspection tools.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of manufacturing processes.
• Ability to accurately document and communicate quality concerns.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to professionally communicate quality concerns to production employees and supervisors.

• Ability to work independently while maintaining consistent inspection standards.
• Comfortable spending the majority of the workday on an active manufacturing floor.
• Ability to work full‑time on‑site in Chocowinity, North Carolina.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous boat or marine manufacturing experience.
• Previous Quality Control Inspector or Quality Technician experience.
• Experience inspecting fiberglass or composite products.
• Knowledge of fiberglass, gelcoat, lamination, assembly, rigging, or final‑finish processes.
• Experience inspecting mechanical, electrical, or plumbing installations.
• Automotive, RV, powersports, aerospace, or other durable‑goods manufacturing experience.
• Experience with nonconformance documentation and corrective actions.
• Experience with root‑cause analysis and continuous improvement.
• Familiarity with ERP, quality‑management, or manufacturing systems.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

This is a hands‑on position requiring regular presence throughout an active boat manufacturing facility.

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods while performing inspections.
• Ability to repeatedly bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and climb.
• Ability to safely climb into, out of, and around boats throughout the workday.
• Ability to inspect confined or difficult‑to‑reach areas of boats when necessary.
• Regular exposure to manufacturing noise, fiberglass/composite materials, dust, chemicals, tools, equipment, and varying temperatures.
• Ability to lift, carry, and position inspection equipment and materials as required.
• Must wear required PPE and follow all facility safety procedures.
