Job summary

Boater’s World Manufacturing Group in Chocowinity, NC is seeking an experienced Metal Fabricator to join our boat manufacturing operation. You will measure, cut, form, drill, weld, grind, and finish aluminum and stainless steel components per drawings and production specs.

Ideal candidates have strong metal fabrication skills, welding (MIG/TIG), and the ability to read drawings. Marine and boat-manufacturing experience is preferred but not required, with opportunities for growth in a hands-on

Responsibilities

  • Fabricate metal components per drawings, measurements, templates, and production specs.
  • Measure, mark, cut, drill, bend, form, fit, and assemble metal materials and components.
  • Operate saws, drills, grinders, sanders, shears, press brakes, and other fabrication equipment.
  • Weld using MIG and/or TIG processes as required.
  • Inspect finished parts for dimensions, fit, and finish quality.
  • Support production with fabrication and welding duties as needed.

Description

Boater’s World Manufacturing Group is seeking an experienced Metal Fabricator to join our boat manufacturing operation in Chocowinity, North Carolina.

The Metal Fabricator is responsible for measuring, cutting, forming, drilling, welding, grinding, and finishing metal components used throughout the boat manufacturing process. This position works primarily with aluminum, stainless steel, and other metals to produce components according to drawings, measurements, templates, and production specifications.

Previous marine manufacturing experience is preferred but not required. Candidates with strong transferable experience in metal fabrication, welding, sheet metal, automotive, industrial manufacturing, construction, or other skilled trades are encouraged to apply.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Metal Fabrication & Production
  • Fabricate metal components according to drawings, measurements, templates, and production specifications
  • Measure, mark, cut, drill, bend, form, fit, and assemble metal materials and components
  • Work with aluminum, stainless steel, and other materials used in boat manufacturing
  • Operate saws, drills, grinders, sanders, shears, press brakes, and other metal fabrication equipment
  • Fit and position components prior to welding or final assembly
  • Perform MIG and/or TIG welding as required by the position
  • Grind, smooth, deburr, and finish fabricated components
  • Verify dimensions, angles, alignment, and fit throughout the fabrication process
  • Modify or repair fabricated components as required
  • Produce components according to established production schedules and quality requirements
  • Assist with prototype, custom, or one-off fabrication projects as assigned
  • Support production departments with fabrication and metalwork needs
Quality & Inspection
  • Inspect raw materials and fabricated components for defects or damage
  • Verify completed parts against drawings, measurements, templates, and specifications
  • Check welds, dimensions, fit, alignment, and overall finish quality
  • Identify fabrication errors and make necessary corrections or adjustments
  • Report recurring material, equipment, drawing, or quality concerns to the appropriate supervisor
  • Maintain consistent workmanship and finished-part quality
  • Help reduce scrap, rework, and material waste through accurate fabrication
Equipment & Tooling
  • Safely operate fabrication machinery, welding equipment, hand tools, and power tools
  • Perform routine equipment inspections and basic preventive maintenance as assigned
  • Maintain welding equipment, fabrication tools, fixtures, and workstations in proper condition
  • Set up and adjust equipment according to material and production requirements
  • Properly store tools, materials, welding supplies, and fabrication equipment
  • Report damaged or malfunctioning equipment promptly
  • Maintain clean and organized fabrication and welding areas
Production Support
  • Coordinate with Engineering, Assembly, Powder Coat, Quality, and other production departments
  • Communicate material shortages, drawing questions, fabrication concerns, or production delays
  • Assist with troubleshooting fitment or fabrication issues during boat assembly
  • Support new product, process, and component changes as required
  • Help identify opportunities to improve fabrication methods, tooling, quality, and production efficiency
  • Perform other fabrication, welding, and production-support duties as assigned
Safety & Housekeeping
  • Follow established procedures for welding, cutting, grinding, and fabrication equipment
  • Properly use welding shields, eye protection, hearing protection, gloves, respiratory protection, and other required PPE
  • Maintain safe handling and storage of compressed gases, welding supplies, metals, and other materials
  • Keep fabrication areas free of unnecessary materials and hazards
  • Follow company requirements related to hot work, fire prevention, ventilation, and equipment safety
  • Immediately report injuries, equipment concerns, unsafe conditions, or other hazards
  • Follow all company environmental, health, safety, quality, and production procedures
Requirements

Previous experience in metal fabrication, welding, sheet metal, or a related skilled trade

  • Experience safely operating common metal fabrication tools and equipment
  • Ability to accurately measure, cut, drill, form, fit, and finish metal components
  • Ability to read and follow measurements, drawings, templates, and production specifications
  • Working knowledge of fabrication methods and metalworking processes
  • Ability to use tape measures, squares, calipers, and other measuring tools
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on troubleshooting ability
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a production team
  • Dependable attendance and ability to work a consistent manufacturing schedule
  • Ability to follow all safety procedures and properly use required PPE
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous boat or marine manufacturing experience
  • Experience fabricating aluminum and stainless-steel components
  • MIG and/or TIG welding experience
  • Experience with sheet metal fabrication
  • Experience operating press brakes, shears, saws, grinders, and related fabrication equipment
  • Ability to read basic fabrication drawings or blueprints
  • Experience building or modifying jigs and fixtures
  • Experience with custom or low-volume fabrication
  • Marine, automotive, RV, powersports, industrial, or other manufacturing experience

Work Environment & Physical Requirements
  • Work is performed in an active boat manufacturing and metal fabrication environment
  • Regular exposure to welding, grinding, sparks, metal dust, noise, heat, tools, equipment, and varying temperatures
  • Ability to stand and work for extended periods
  • Ability to bend, kneel, reach, climb, push, pull, and perform repetitive fabrication activities
  • Ability to safely operate welding and metal fabrication equipment
  • Ability to lift, carry, position, and move metal materials and fabricated components as required by the position
  • Must wear required PPE and follow all facility safety procedures
  • Where respirator use is required, must satisfy applicable medical-evaluation and fit-testing requirements
