Summary/Objective:

This position is primarily responsible for the fabrication of sub-assemblies used in chassis. This individual will be measuring, plasma cutting, and welding systems to produce sub-assemblies. A small parts cell welder will report to the team leader to ensure daily goals are being met.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Essential Functions:

  • Combine specified designs and measurements, appropriate component parts, plasma cutting, assemble brackets on the landing gears, and welding systems to produce sub-assemblies.
  • Rotate positions into production welding as necessary in or outside of the small parts department.
  • Ensure scrap metal is separated from regular trash for proper disposal.
  • Keep parts off the floor using racks and shelves.

Other Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in repair work as necessary.
  • Maintain organized and clean parts area; label extra parts as needed.
  • Read and use a tape measure.
  • Maintain good housekeeping practices in the sub-assembly area.

Working Conditions:

  • Work around moving mechanical parts, heavy equipment, and conveyor lines.
  • May work outdoors in all seasons; noise level is moderate to loud.
  • May be exposed to dust, fumes, gases, noise, heat, cold, and wet conditions.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Welding competency and knowledge of welding systems.
  • Ability to perform basic math operations.
  • Ability to understand and follow detailed instructions.

Competencies:

  • Ability to work as part of a team to meet demand.
  • Meet production goals and deadlines.
  • Basic computer skills for posting production tags.
  • Clear communication skills in English.
  • Ability to read measurements, prints, and instructions.
  • Operate equipment like MIG welders, band saws, plasma cutters, etc.
  • Problem-solving skills.
  • Maintain professionalism and good relationships.
  • Work under stressful conditions and adapt to changes.
  • Operate a lift truck if necessary.

Supervisory Responsibility:

This role does not have supervisory responsibilities upon hiring.

Physical Demands:

Active role involving standing, walking, bending, lifting over 50 pounds, and other physical activities. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, and peripheral vision.

Personal protective equipment such as gloves, glasses, ear plugs, and steel-toed boots are required.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

Full-time hourly position with hours based on operational needs; some Saturdays are mandatory.

Travel:

No travel required.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Ability to read basic blueprints.
  • Lift truck license preferred (training available).
