Job summary

Communities Unlimited, Inc. seeks a Small Business Consultant to provide direct consulting services to startup and existing small businesses across our seven-state region, with focus around the Jackson, MS area.

The role emphasizes cash flow, pricing, hiring, record-keeping, and preparing clients to borrow, working mostly with rural and underserved communities. Remote-friendly but residency in Jackson, MS is required.

Qualifications

• Option A: Master’s degree in business, management, finance, administration, or related field with at least 1 year of experience in ownership, startups, development, or leadership roles supporting growth.
• Option B: Bachelor’s degree in business, management, finance, administration, or related field with at least 5 years' experience in ownership, startups, development, operations, consulting, or leadership roles supporting growth.
• Strong facilitation, writing, and communication skills, and comfort with everyday business software.
• Ability to develop workshops related to small business management consulting.
• Ability to reach out and build partnerships in target communities.
• Ability to work one-on-one with entrepreneurs to build business skills and management capacity.
• Ability to work independently, with accountability for results.
• Ability to assist in training other management consultants.
• Must maintain a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, driving record, and appropriate auto insurance.
• Must be authorized to work in the USA.

Responsibilities

• Conduct financial and operational assessments for small business clients, identify growth challenges, and recommend strategies to improve performance and sustainability.
• Develop scopes of services, financial projections, and actionable plans while delivering consulting services and financial literacy education.
• Analyze financial data, including ratio analysis, to support decision-making and guide clients toward growth.
• Build and maintain relationships with community leaders, business owners, and partners while promoting economic development resources and identifying funding or partnership opportunities.
• Maintain accurate client documentation, reporting, timekeeping, and communication while supporting team collaboration and organizational initiatives.

Small Business Consultant

Salary Range: $61,800.00 To $63,500.00 Annually

The primary role of this position is to provide direct, one-on-one, management and business skills consulting services to startup and existing small businesses located throughout our 7-state service area, with primary emphasis in the region around their office location. Position assignments include developing content for trainings and topic facilitation for webinars and workshops related to small business start and growth and building relationships with local community leaders to facilitate economic development activities related to small business growth and development.

We're looking for someone who has owned or runs/ran a small business and wants to help other owners do it well. You'll work one-on-one with startup and existing small business owners, mostly in rural and underserved communities, on cash flow, pricing, hiring, record-keeping, and getting ready to borrow.

Work Location: An ideal candidate will work from home; however, candidate must currently reside in the Jackson, MS area.

Small Business Consultant Requirements:

• Education
