Job summary

NC State University is seeking a Small Animal Emergency Veterinary Assistant for the CVM Teaching Hospital in Raleigh, NC. This role provides around-the-clock critical care support, triage, stabilization, and high-acuity patient management in a teaching hospital setting.

The position involves collaboration with board-certified specialists, students, and veterinary staff. On-site work with rotating holidays and on-call duties is required, with comprehensive benefits offered by the Wolfpack

Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited veterinary assistant training program.
• Equivalent training or experience may be considered.
• Experience mentoring or teaching students is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Emergency triage, patient assessment, stabilization, CPR, and monitoring of critical patients.
• Nursing care including venipuncture, catheter placement, transfusions, pain management, and fluids.
• Diagnostics and procedures: in-house lab, radiographs, ultrasound, minor surgery support.
• Coordinate care with clients, referring veterinarians, students, interns, residents, clinicians; document in hospital systems.
• Train and coach staff and students; maintain a clean, safe clinical environment.
