Job summary

SIG Group in Northlake, IL is seeking a Slitting Operator Level 2 to set up, operate, and optimize slitting equipment. You will ensure product quality, perform routine adjustments, and support training for less experienced operators.

Responsibilities include loading materials, following safety protocols, and documenting production data. The role requires 2–4 years in lamination/slitting and a focus on efficiency and quality.

Qualifications

  • 2–4 years of hands-on experience in lamination and slitting or related manufacturing.
  • Experience filling out production paperwork and inspecting materials.
  • Ability to thread film, adjust parameters, and check material size and type.
  • Familiarity with identifying defects and basic machine maintenance.

YOU MAY BE OUR NEW Slitting Operator

Slitting Operator Level 2 responsible for setting up, operating, and optimizing slitting equipment to convert large rolls of packaging materials into precise widths. Ensures product quality, performs routine adjustments and troubleshooting, maintains safety standards, and supports production efficiency while assisting in training less experienced operators.

COMPENSATION: $20.50 - $24 /hr + Shift Differential Day shift ($1.50) & Night shift ($3.00) *12 hour shift Rotating Schedule - Days 7am-7pm & Nights 7pm-7am

LOCATION: Northlake, IL

Key Responsibilities

As an at-will employer, SIG/Scholle IPN serves the right to add to or modify this list to the extent it deems necessary.

  • Check machine settings and safety features before starting the machines, load materials, and start operations.
  • Learn and follow Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures for Slitting equipment.
  • Understanding different types of materials used in the Slitting process (e.g., plastic films, paper, foil, textiles) and how they behave during lamination
  • Operating machines that cut laminated materials into narrower strips or sizes according to customer specifications.
  • Ability to operate laminating equipment that applies Adhesive or Thermal to materials and bonds them together under heat and pressure
  • Understanding different slitting methods, including rotary slitting, razor slitting, or shear slitting, and selecting the appropriate method for the material being processed.
  • Ability to perform minor repairs or adjustments on machines, such as replacing blades, fixing jams, or realigning machinery
  • Ensure that the lamination and slitting processes are operating at the correct speed and efficiency.
  • Regularly inspecting slit materials for defects like wrinkles, gaps, or uneven thickness.
  • Start up and shut down of the assembly line and production equipment
  • Documenting the quality checks and production data, ensuring that quality standards are being maintained throughout the process and entered into the computer system
  • Ensuring that products meet customer specifications, including precise widths, bonding strength, and surface appearance
  • Follow up change over process to run different products
  • Load and unload material into the machine using hoists and mobile equipment such forklifts
  • Assist maintenance in troubleshooting and repairing during the mechanical downtime
Required Skills, Experience & Education
  • 2 -4 years of hands-on experience in Lamination and Slitting or a related manufacturing environment.
  • Fill out production paperwork as required.
  • Inspect materials to make sure they meet quality standards.
  • Thread film through the machine and check if it matches the required size and type.
  • Troubleshoot basic issues with the Slitter, like air pockets, folds, or wrinkles.
  • Adjust machine temperature, pressure, and speed as needed during the lamination process.
  • Cut off waste materials, trim, and roll laminated materials to meet machine and quality standards.
  • Observe operation of the Slitting process for surface and quality defects.
