Job summary

Responsibilities

• Performs polysomnographic data acquisition with artifact-free signals and identifies abnormalities.
• Documents observations including sleep stages and clinical events.
• Evaluates patient conditions and intervenes when needed under supervision.
• Maintains/produces medical records according to policy and manages files.
• Assists with care, maintenance, and tracking of equipment; alerts supervisor for repairs and low stock.

JOB SUMMARY

A sleep technologist trainee works under the direct supervision of a registeredpolysomnographerto provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders in the sleep testing center, diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, comprehensive patientcareand direct patient education.A sleep technologist traineeis able toperform the duties of a sleep technologist so long as a RPSGT is present.The sleep technologist trainee is enrolled in an accredited educational program leading to an associate degree with an emphasis on sleep technology and has graduated and is awaiting registry.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE

• Performs polysomnographic data acquisition whilemonitoringtracing quality to ensure signals are artifact-free.Identifiesand corrects signal abnormalities.

• Documentsroutine observations, including sleep stages and clinical events, changes in procedure and othersignificant eventstofacilitatescoring and interpretation of polysomnographic results.Scoressleep studies.

• Evaluatessituations/patient conditions when clinical intervention is required so that no patient condition deterioratesas a result ofmisjudgment.Recognizesand actson panic values during testing.

• Maintains/documents on medicalrecordaccording to policy andmaintainsfiles and handles documents appropriately.

• Assistswith care,maintenanceand tracking of equipment/supplies.Alertssupervisor of need for repair and processes equipment according to policy.Alertssupervisoroflow stock levels.

QUALIFICATIONS

Sleep technologist trainees must be enrolled in an accredited educational program leading to an associate degree with an emphasis on sleep technology or have graduated from such program andisawaiting registry.
