Job summary

Dartmouth-Hitchcock Health Sleep Center is seeking a polysomnography technician to develop competency in testing under direct supervision. You will assist with patient preparation, verify orders, explain procedures, and ensure proper functioning of equipment.

Responsibilities include applying electrodes, calibrations, CPAP/BIPAP titration, monitoring signals, documenting observations, and supporting safety during studies while following center protocols.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED with 6 months of direct patient care, or 1 year post-secondary education, or enrollment in polysomnography.
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
• Good judgment and ability to handle emergencies.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Basic computer skills and awareness of privacy/confidentiality.
• Familiarity with laboratory equipment or analysis of physiological data preferred.

Responsibilities

• Reviews patient history, verifies medical orders and protocols.
• Verifies patient identification, collects documents, and obtains consent.
• Explains procedures and orients patient to Sleep Center.
• Prepares and calibrates equipment to determine proper functioning.
• Applies electrodes and sensors per published standards.
• Performs physiological calibrations to ensure proper signals.
• Performs CPAP/BIPAP titration and mask fitting.
• Follows protocols under supervision of a Technologist or Technician.
• Documents observations and events to facilitate scoring and interpretation.
• Assists with interventions for patient safety during the study.
• Ensures data collection integrity during lights on/off procedures.
• Gains knowledge to provide age-specific care across patient groups.
• Performs other duties as required.
