Job summary

Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago seeks a Polysomnographic Technologist II to perform comprehensive sleep testing and analysis under supervision, building on Sleep Tech I duties. Credentialed with BRPT/ABRET, you will educate trainees and support the sleep center’s operations.

You will calibrate equipment, collect high-quality data, participate in quality assurance, and contribute to patient safety with interventions as needed in a busy sleep lab.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • RPSGT by BRPT and/or REEG T by ABRET is required.
  • CCSH preferred.
  • CPR/BLS certification required.
  • Strong written and spoken communication skills.
  • Ability to move machines and patients weighing over 25 pounds.
  • Adherence to BRPT standards of conduct.

Responsibilities

  • Scores sleep/wake stages and clinical events per AASM.
  • Generates accurate reports by tabulating data.
  • Analyzes complex situations with minimal supervision.
  • Maintains continuing education for credentialing.

Polysomnographic Technologist II – General Summary

A Polysomnographic Technologist II has passed examination and obtained an RPSGT credential by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) and/or R. EEG T., credential by ABRET. Performs all duties of Sleep Technologist I and comprehensive sleep testing analysis under general supervision of the clinical director. Completes administrative tasks, provides education to new technologists and trainees, and offers guidance to Technologist I. No supervisory responsibilities, technical position.

Essential Job Functions
  • Scores sleep/wake stages and scoring clinical events (e.g., respiratory events, cardiac events, limb movements, arousals) utilizing AASM standards.
  • Generates accurate reports by tabulating sleep/wake and clinical event data.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking and minimal supervision to analyze complex situations, applies policy.
  • Maintains continuing education requirements for credential by reviewing literature and attending continuing education meetings and seminars.
  • Inspects and maintains sleep study equipment and inventory.
  • Participates in the quality assurance program.
  • Responds to sleep patients’ procedural‑related inquiries and provides education using sleep center protocols.
  • Calibrates, maintains, and troubleshoots equipment; selects amplifier settings, obtains quality data, and analyzes data during recordings.
  • Performs data acquisition while monitoring study‑tracing quality to ensure signals are artifact‑free; identifies, corrects and documents artifact.
  • Implements appropriate interventions for patient safety and therapeutic needs (positive airway pressure, oxygen administration, etc.).
  • Provides customer service focus and teamwork to deliver high‑quality care and service.
  • Orients new Polysomnographic Technologists and participates as educator for internal Lurie Sleep Training program.
  • Performs other job functions as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • RPSGT (Registered Polysomnographic Technologist) by BRPT and/or REEG T by ABRET required.
  • CCSH (Certification in Clinical Sleep Health) by BRPT preferred.
  • Two years of college or equivalents preferred, or 3‑5 years of experience performing polysomnography preferred.
  • Current CPR or BLS certification required.
  • Demonstrated effective written and spoken communication skills.
  • Ability to move machines and patients weighing in excess of 25 pounds.
  • Ability to comply with BRPT standards of Conduct.
Education

High School Diploma/GED (Required). Basic Life Support – American Heart Association (BLS).

Pay Range

$28.50 - $46.60 hourly. The pay range indicates minimum and maximum targets. Ranges are reviewed to stay aligned with market conditions.
