Job Summary

A Polysomnographic Technician I is an entry- to mid-level position in the Sleep Medicine Center that performs comprehensive sleep testing analysis and associated interventions under the general supervision of the clinical director (M.D., D.O., and/or Ph.D) or designee. This technical role has no supervisory responsibilities but may assist with orientation of new technologists. The technician also handles administrative tasks in addition to technical duties.

Outpatient Center, Grayslake, Illinois (Night shift)

Job Responsibilities

• Review patient history, physical information, medication, procedure request, and study protocol.
• Calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot equipment and select appropriate amplifier settings.
• Obtain quality data and analyze it during recordings.
• Explain test procedures and orient patients/families using age‑appropriate guidelines.
• Perform physiologic calibrations to ensure proper signals and make adjustments if necessary.
• Acquire data while monitoring study‑tracing quality to ensure signals are artifact‑free.
• Identify, correct, and document artifacts, and record routine observations including sleep stages and clinical events.
• Perform routine positive airway pressure (PAP) mask fitting.
• Implement appropriate interventions for patient safety such as PAP, oxygen administration, and other therapeutic actions.
• Assist with scoring sleep/wake stages and clinical events (e.g., respiratory events, cardiac events, limb movements, arousals) using AASM standards.
• Apply knowledge to different testing situations within polysomnography.
• Adhere to service principles with a customer‑service focus, teamwork, and commitment to quality care.
• Perform other job functions as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• High school diploma or GED required.
• RPSGT (Registered Polysomnographic Technologist) by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists preferred.
• Two years of college or equivalent preferred, or 1–2 years of polysomnography experience preferred.
• Completion of a sleep technology program from a state‑licensed or nationally accredited facility.
• Current CPR or BLS certification required.
• Demonstrated effective written and spoken communication skills.
• Ability to move equipment and patient weighing in excess of 25 pounds.
• Compliance with BRPT standards of conduct.

Education & Credentials

High School Diploma or GED (Required). BLS – Basic Life Support – American Heart Association.

Pay Range

$26.25 – $42.92 hourly. Compensation is reviewed regularly to stay aligned with market conditions. A comprehensive rewards package may include hourly differentials, leadership incentives, health and retirement benefits, and wellbeing programs.
