Newport News Shipbuilding is seeking welders to join the X68 OIP MECHANICAL team in Newport News, VA. You will be qualified through our welding school and perform structural and pipe welds on ship components using SMAW, FCAW, GMAW, and GTAW processes.

The role requires at least one year of welding experience, physical capability for restricted spaces, and the ability to lift 40 lbs and pass a respirator fit test. Must work any shift; high school diploma preferred.

Qualifikationen

• Must have at least one year of welding experience.
• Candidates must work in small confined spaces and perform physical tasks such as kneeling, squatting, crawling, bending, stooping and climbing.
• Must lift up to 40 lbs and pass a respirator fit test; able to work assigned shifts.
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Aufgaben

• Perform structural and/or pipe welding in all phases of ship construction using SMAW, FCAW, GMAW, GTAW.
• Tack, fillet, and full-penetration welds on steel foundations and joints in production for aircraft carriers and submarines.
• Meet nondestructive testing requirements (visual, magnetic particle, ultrasonic, radiographic).
• Participate in additional training including visual inspection, fire watch, carbon arcing, and equipment troubleshooting.
