Job summary

Georgia State University is looking for a full-time Maintenance Technician to assist skilled trades in tasks related to plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, and other building maintenance activities. The role includes preventive maintenance, minor repairs, and operation of heavy machinery.

Job Overview

Facilities Management Services – Building Maintenance, Zone 06.

Location: Perimeter Campus (subject to change)

Schedule: Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 3:45 p.m. (subject to change)

Compensation: $32,400 – $38,900 per year.

Department: Maintenance and Operations – Zone 06.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist skilled trades workers in maintenance and renovation tasks such as electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, and other building trades work.
  • Perform semi‑skilled tasks, including cleaning work areas, sweeping, collecting trash, assisting in demolition activities, and moving supplies and equipment.
  • Perform minor operation, maintenance, installation, and repair of HVAC, heating equipment, and plumbing.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on equipment and systems assigned to HVAC and heating.
  • Transport raw materials, semi‑finished products or supplies between departments or buildings.
  • Perform minor welding repairs and operate power tools.
  • Perform light carpentry work such as building bookshelves, bookcases, etc.
  • Mix and pour concrete for foundations and fixtures.
  • Install, repair, and service motors, pumps, and fans.
  • Operate heavy machinery such as forklifts, tractors, etc.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
  • Technical or vocational degree in plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, or electrical trade area; or a high school diploma or GED and one year of experience in plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, or electrical trade area.
  • Valid Georgia driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of tools and equipment used in HVAC and heating.
  • Knowledge of basic principles and practices of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, or other related trades.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Ability to perform strenuous manual tasks.
  • Ability to operate hand tools and equipment used in HVAC, heating, and plumbing fields such as jacks, meters, wrenches, etc.
Compensation & Benefits

Salary range: $32,400 – $38,900. Salary offers will be determined based on qualifications in relation to the minimum hiring standards. Candidates earlier in their careers are typically offered salaries closer to the minimum of the hiring range, while those with more advanced or relevant experience may be considered for compensation at or above the hiring range.
