Job summary

Monroechamber in O’Fallon, MO is seeking an experienced Toolmaker to build, repair, and modify dies, fixtures, jigs, gauges, and tooling in a hands-on shop. You’ll work with lathes, mills, grinders, and other machine tools in a production environment.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years of toolmaking experience, technical training or an associate degree, and strong blueprint reading, measurement, and problem-solving skills. OT may be available on Fridays.

Responsibilities

• Develop specifications from general descriptions for specialty tools and drawings.
• Heat-treat tools or parts as required.

Job description

Position Title: Toolmaker Wage: $72,800.00-$89,440.00/year Shift: 1st Hours: 6:00am-4:30pm Monday-Thursday, Potential for OT on Fridays

Put your precision machining skills to work! We’re looking for an experienced Toolmaker to build, repair, and modify dies, fixtures, jigs, gauges, and specialty tooling in a hands-on manufacturing environment in O’Fallon, MO. Toolmaker Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Study specifications such as blueprints, sketches, models, or descriptions and visualize product to determine materials required and machines to be used to fabricate parts
• Calculate dimensions, plan layout, and determine assembly method and sequence of operations
• Measure, mark, and scribe metal stock for machining; verify dimensions, alignments, and clearances using a variety of measuring devices and gauges
• Set up and operate machine tools, such as lathes, milling machines, jig and surface grinders, to machine parts and verify conformance of machined parts to specifications
• Lift machined parts using hoists, forklifts or cranes, and position and secure parts on surface plate or worktable
• Smooth flat and contoured surfaces with power grinders, and fit and assemble parts together and into assemblies and mechanisms
• Connect wiring and hydraulic lines to install electrical and hydraulic components
• Examine standard or previously used dies, tools, jigs and fixtures, and recommend design modifications regarding construction and function of part
• Develop specifications from general descriptions for specialty tools and draw or sketch design of product
• Heat-treat tools or parts as required
• Other duties as required

Toolmaker Requirements:

• Associate degree or equivalent from accredited college or technical school is preferred; or, 4-6 years of related experience and/or training; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret repair manuals, blueprints, schematics, shop drawings, engineering notes, drawings, procedural manuals, and other mechanical reports; present information effectively, and respond to questions from groups of managers, supervisors, employees, and others
• Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as decimal equivalents, inference, and the fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry; apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations
• Ability to solve practical problems and deals with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists; interpret written, oral, diagrammed, or schedule-form instructions
• Ability to talk, hear, see, and use hands/fingers to handle or feel
• Ability to frequently walk or stand for long periods of time for up to 10 hours a day
• Ability to regularly sit for extended periods of time for up to 10 hours a day
• Ability to occasionally bend, stoop, crawl, or kneel
• Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force to occasionally lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects; if greater than 50 pounds, will require assistance or the use of lifting equipment
• Production environment in a manufacturing facility with occasional exposure to fumes or airborne particles
• Occasionally works near punch presses, machine shop equipment, forklifts, welders, and automated assembly fixtures
• Use of Personal Protective Equipment is required when in the plant
