Job summary

Avamere Rehab Hillsboro is seeking a Cook to join the Culinary Services team. You will prepare meals for residents under the supervision of the Culinary Services Manager, assist with inventory, and coordinate dietary and service activities in a skilled nursing setting.

Responsibilities include reviewing menus, following recipes, ensuring portion control, proper temperatures, and compliance with health regulations.

Qualifications

• Attention to detail for reading/handling recipes and production sheets.
• Current Food Handlers card issued by local Health Department.
• Active CPR/BLS certification required and maintained during employment.
• Around one year of quantity food preparation experience to uphold high standards.
• Previous institutional kitchen experience preferred.
• Initiative and sound judgment in meal planning and leftovers.
• Competent in operating kitchen equipment.
• Strong interpersonal skills for teamwork across departments.
• Knowledge of dietary practices and related laws in nursing home operations.

Responsibilities

• Review menus and follow recipes during preparation.
• Manage food and dietary supplies to control waste.
• Maintain portion control and ensure proper serving temperatures.
• Inspect special diet trays for accuracy.
• Maintain storage standards and assist in receiving and stocking supplies.
• Keep food storage areas clean and properly organized.
• Help establish food production lines to meet meal times.
• Orient and coach staff on sanitation and safety standards.
