Job summary

Lehman-Roberts Company, a Memphis-based leader in highway construction, is seeking a Skilled Asphalt Grading/Paving Laborer. The role involves assisting with raking, lute work, and training as a screed operator, with duties shifting across project needs.

You will support operators, handle traffic control setup, and help maintain safety and quality on site. This is a full-time, physically demanding position with opportunities to grow within our asphalt and aggregates operations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma, GED or equivalent required.
• Ability to follow directions and work on diverse duties.
• Capable of performing and adapting to changing tasks on construction sites.
• Must work with accuracy and meet standard procedures.
• Ability to repeat tasks and evaluate information by measurable standards.

Responsibilities

• Follow Foreman's directions and daily task expectations for each project.
• Assist screed operator and paver with equipment and joints.
• Lute joints and hand work sections not placed by the paver.
• Communicate with screed/paver operators about joints and mix.
• Fill holes and repair pavement imperfections as needed.
• Coordinate with roller operators when mix is ready to roll.
• Set up, move, and dismantle signs, barricades, and traffic control devices.
• Help clean tools and equipment at shift end.

General Summary

The Skilled Asphalt Grading/Paving Laborer position is responsible for performing various duties on construction and/or paving projects. The employee will generally work in utility capacity by transferring from one task to another where demands are required.

Duties include but are not limited to rake/lute work, shovel work, dump person, and training as a screed operator and small equipment operator.

Essential Job Accountabilities

• Follow direction of Foreman as to daily tasks and expectations for each specific project or jobsite.
• Assist screed operator with ski pole and electronics.
• Lute joints and hand work sections that cannot be placed by paver.
• Communicate with screed operator and paver operator about joints/mix.
• Fill holes and repair all pavement imperfections when needed.
• Communicate with roller men when mix is ready to be rolled.
• Assists in the placement, moving and dismantling of signs, barricades, cones and other traffic control devices.
• At close of shift, clean tools and assist in cleaning equipment.

Education

High School Diploma, GED or equivalent years of experience
