Job summary

MasTec Communications Group is seeking a Skilled Laborer to support long haul telecom construction nationwide. You will help with aerial and underground fiber projects, learn and apply safety procedures, and contribute to high-quality workmanship on all phases of construction.

This entry-level to mid-level role offers per diem, overtime, and a benefits package including 401(k) with match, ESPP, life and disability insurance, boot voucher, and paid time off.

Qualifications

• 1–2 years outdoors/utilities/construction experience.
• Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs.
• CDL class A or B with a clean 3-year record.

Responsibilities

• Put safety first and follow PPE and job-site rules.
• Dig, trench, prep sites, handle materials and cleanup.
• Assist aerial/underground telecom work, conduit/fiber installation.
• Operate trucks, trailers and equipment as trained.
• Read construction prints, maps and designs.
• Maintain clean, safe, organized job sites.

Responsibilities

As a Skilled Laborer on our Long Haul Travel Crew, you will support aerial and underground telecom construction projects nationwide, on all phases of utility construction for various types of projects. You believe in doing the job right. Being the best. And you're up for the challenge.

In addition, you will:

• Put safety first, following all company, OSHA, and job-site requirements and using proper PPE
• Perform hands-on construction work, including digging, trenching, site preparation, material handling, and cleanup
• Assist with aerial and underground telecom construction, including conduit and fiber installation and fiber blowing
• Operate and assist with trucks, trailers, and construction equipment as trained and certified
• Learn to safely use hand tools, power tools, and telecom equipment such as bucket trucks, line trucks, and cable reels
• Assist with basic troubleshooting and repair of RF and fiber systems
• Learn to read construction prints, maps, and design plans
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe job site and perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

About You:

• Safety is a part of your day-to-day
• You have a track record of completing work with a high level of quality
• At least 1-2 years of experience working outdoors, preferably in a utilities/construction environment
• Must be physically able and willing to lift up to 50 lbs., consistently and independently
• Must have a current and valid CDL class A or B, with a clean driving record for the past 3 years
• You have a knack for figuring out hard problems and enjoy getting your hands dirty with your team
• You are looking for long-term projects and growth opportunities
• You want to learn the telecom construction trade to advance your career, like Coax Splicing, Fiber Splicing, Directional Drilling, etc.
• Open to travel nationwide 7 days a week, per diem, 4-5 weeks on, and 5 days off on a rotating schedule (50+ hours per week, depending on the weather), and working overtime consistently

MOS Codes 12K, 12N,12V, 12W, 21E, 21J, 25P, 91C, 91L, 11B, 1100, 1120, 1316, 9970-9975, 0612, 2T3XX, 2E1XX, 3E2XX, 3E3XX, 9T0XX, BU, UT relate well to this position.

Compensation of $21-$25 per hour, depending on the experience.
