Qualifications

• Extensive knowledge of safe use, care, and operation of hand, power, and pneumatic tools, as well as specialized shop equipment.
• Strong knowledge of plumbing techniques and large-scale wastewater facility piping systems.
• Proficient welding techniques including MIG, TIG and stick; pumps and pumping systems.
• Ability to read mechanical drawings and prepare clear documentation of work performed.
• Knowledge and experience with rigging, hoisting, and safe operation of overhead cranes and lifting devices.
• Ability to lead or mentor less-experienced mechanics or helpers.

Responsibilities

• Maintains, repairs, and overhaul of complex mechanical machinery including pumps, motors, grinders, blowers and compressors, centrifuges, gearboxes, hydraulic systems, and gravity belt thickeners.
• Installs and repairs large plumbing and piping systems for wastewater facilities.
• Fabricates, modifies, and repairs plant piping and heavy equipment using welding equipment and plasma cutters; contributes to design improvements.
• Operates a variety of hand, power, and pneumatic tools safely, applying shop practices.
• Leads or mentors junior mechanics or helpers on tasks and troubleshooting.
• Performs other duties to support plant reliability and safety.
