Torrance Casting Inc is seeking a General Laborer to support multiple foundry production areas, from grinding to casting handling. The role emphasizes safety, reliability, and learning new skills while contributing to a team-driven, efficient operation.

You will operate basic tools, follow work orders, document activities, and maintain clean workspaces in a physically demanding environment. Training provided for the right candidate.

Responsibilities

• Work in different areas of foundry production, including grinding, pouring support, shakeout, and cut-off.
• Operate stand grinding wheels and hand tools to deburr and clean iron castings.
• Move molds using hoists and position on the pouring deck.
• Remove hot castings from conveyors and place into bins or pallets.
• Use tools to remove gating and risers from castings and set up machinery.
• Read and follow work orders and job process instructions.
• Record work activity on a computer.
• Keep stations stocked and maintain a clean, organized workspace.
• Follow safety procedures and wear required PPE.

Job description

No assembly line here! As a General Laborer, your days will fly by as you stay busy in one or more areas of our foundry. General Laborers are cross-trained throughout production, giving you the opportunity to learn different jobs and develop new skills while working independently and as part of a team.

Work Schedule

• 1st Shift: 6:00 AM–2:00 PM
• 2nd Shift: 2:00 PM–10:00 PM (additional shift differential)

What you will do:

• Work in different areas of foundry production, including grinding, pouring support, shakeout, and cut‑off.
• Operate stand grinding wheels and various hand tools to deburr and clean iron castings.
• Use physical strength to push and position molds on the pouring deck and use hoists to lift and lower weights onto molds.
• Remove hot castings from conveyors and place them into bins or onto pallets.
• Use sledgehammers, power saws, hydraulic wedges, and other tools to remove gating and risers from castings.
• Set up, operate, and shut down production machinery.
• Visually inspect castings to help ensure they meet quality standards.
• Read and follow work orders and job process instructions.
• Use a computer to record work activity.
• Keep workstations stocked with the supplies and tools needed to complete the job.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area.
• Follow all required safety procedures and wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
• Work independently and as part of a team to keep production moving safely and efficiently.

Physical Requirements

This is a physically active position that requires continuous standing and walking, along with frequent turning, reaching, and grasping and occasional squatting, bending, and stooping. The position requires lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds frequently.

High School Diploma or GED preferred. No prior foundry experience required—we are willing to train the right candidate.
