Job summary

Torrance Casting is seeking a Pouring Laborer to join our foundry team in Wisconsin. This is a physically active role involved in mold prep, temperatures of molten iron, and data recording. Shift options include 1st and 2nd with differential for the latter.

You will repeatedly lift, move, and position molds, operate hoists, and monitor equipment while adhering to safety protocols. Training is provided for the right candidate.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• No prior foundry experience required—we are willing to train the right candidate.
• Physical strength and stamina for a hands-on foundry role.
• Ability to work safely in heat, dust, and loud environments.
• Willingness to learn a variety of foundry processes and equipment.

Responsibilities

• Move and position empty and filled molds using physical strength.
• Operate hoists and lifting equipment to place/remove jackets and weights on molds.
• Prepare molds with correct weight and jacket configuration for pouring.
• Take temperatures of molten iron.
• Collect and pour test samples from the ladle stream.
• Inspect hoists and equipment for safe operation.
• Read and follow work orders and job process instructions.
• Record work activity and production data on a computer.
• Keep workstation stocked with supplies and tools; maintain cleanliness.
• Follow all safety procedures and wear proper PPE.
• Work independently and as part of a team to keep production moving safely.

Job description

No assembly line here! As a Pouring Laborer, your days will fly by as you stay busy working as part of our foundry team to prepare molds and support the pouring of molten iron. This is a hands-on, physically active position where safety, teamwork, and attention to detail are essential.

Work Schedule

• 1st Shift: 6:00 AM–2:00 PM
• 2nd Shift: 2:00 PM–10:00 PM (additional shift differential)

What you will do:

• Use physical strength to move and position empty and filled molds.
• Use hoists and other lifting equipment to place and remove metal jackets and weights on molds.
• Prepare molds with the proper weight and jacket configuration for pouring.
• Take temperatures of molten iron.
• Take and pour test samples from the ladle stream.
• Inspect hoists and equipment to ensure they are operating safely and properly.
• Read and follow work orders and job process instructions.
• Use a computer to record work activity and production data.
• Keep your workstation stocked with the supplies and tools needed to complete work.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area.
• Follow all required safety procedures and wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
• Work independently and as part of a team to keep production moving safely and efficiently.

Physical Requirements

This is a physically active position that requires continuous standing and walking, along with frequent bending, stooping, turning, and reaching. The position may require lifting and carrying up to 40 pounds occasionally, heavier lifting on rare occasions, and frequently pushing or pulling molds and equipment weighing up to 125 pounds.
