Job summary

Torrance Casting, Inc. is seeking a hands-on Grinder to grind, clean, and finish iron castings on the 2nd shift. You will operate grinders and related equipment, inspect finished parts, and prepare items for shipment.

This role requires comfort with heat and noise in a foundry setting, physical stamina, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team to maintain steady production. Training is provided for the right candidate.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• No prior foundry experience required—we are willing to train the right candidate.
• Safety-focused with dependable attendance.
• Comfortable working around heat, noise, dust in a foundry.
• Able to operate and read job orders and process instructions.

Responsibilities

• Use grinders, sanders, buffers, and other tools to deburr and clean iron castings.
• Visually inspect finished castings for quality.
• Set up, operate, and shut down machinery and equipment.
• Move heavy castings with hoists and equipment.
• Follow work orders and process instructions.
• Record work activity on a computer.
• Prepare castings for shipment and label boxes.
• Keep workstation stocked and organized.
• Maintain clean work area and adhere to safety procedures.
• Work independently and as part of a team to keep production moving.

No assembly line here! As a Grinder, your days will fly by as you stay busy using a variety of tools and equipment to grind, clean, and finish iron castings. This is a hands-on, physically active position where you'll work independently and as part of a team to make sure each casting meets our quality standards.

Work Schedule

• 2nd Shift: 2:00 PM-10:00 PM (additional shift differential)

What you will do:

• Use stand, disc, cone, and pencil grinders, sanders, buffers, and other tools to deburr and clean iron castings.
• Visually inspect finished castings to ensure they meet quality standards.
• Set up, operate, and shut down machinery and equipment.
• Use hoists and other equipment to safely move and position heavier castings.
• Read and follow work orders and job process instructions.
• Use a computer to record work activity.
• Prepare finished castings for shipment, including assembling boxes, weighing skids, and labeling boxes.
• Keep your workstation stocked with the supplies and tools needed to complete work.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area.
• Follow all required safety procedures and wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
• Work independently and as part of a team to keep production moving safely and efficiently.

Physical Requirements

This is a physically active position that requires continuous standing and walking, along with frequent bending, stooping, turning, and reaching. The position requires lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds frequently and up to 75 pounds occasionally. Hoists are available to assist with moving heavier castings.
