Job summary

Advocate Health Care is seeking a dedicated kitchen cook to join our hospital support team. The role involves preparing meals per recipes, maintaining quality and portion control, and ensuring safe food handling in a fast-paced hospital kitchen.

You will measure ingredients, operate kitchen equipment, and assist in inventory management while adhering to diet restrictions and patient-specific needs. This position requires strong time management and teamwork in a clinical setting.

Qualifications

• ServSafe Food Handler certification required within 1 year.
• Typically requires 3 years of experience in food production in settings such as a hotel, restaurant or high end institutional environment.
• Familiarity with diet restrictions and ability to adapt recipes accordingly.
• Ability to measure and scale amounts of ingredients used in a recipe.
• Strong time management and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Reviews production sheets and recipes to ensure quality and quantity needed for items to prepare.
• Prepares food on daily production report according to guidelines.
• Measures and mixes ingredients according to recipe using kitchen utensils and equipment.
• Bakes, roasts, broils and steams meat, fish, vegetables and other foods per recipes; carves and slices meats and cheese.
• Garnishes, displays and serves food items according to standards and recipes.
• Ensures proper storage and rotation of inventories; monitors food temperatures and safe handling.
• Maintains temperature logs for production areas per department standards.
• Monitors portioning and promotes waste control; prepares in small batches to reduce waste/cost.
• Must demonstrate knowledge of age-specific care requirements and apply department policies accordingly.
