Horizontal Boring & Tunneling Co. is seeking a Skilled Construction Laborer to join our Nebraska/Midwest projects. You will work year-round outdoors, perform trenchless piping and heavy equipment tasks, and support site mobilization and material handling.

The role requires 3+ years in underground construction, trenchless experience and ability to read plans, with safety-first duties and competitive compensation based on experience.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of construction experience in underground utilities or related fields.
• Experience operating trenchless equipment such as Tunnel Boring, Guided Boring and Auger Boring.
• Experience operating heavy equipment (excavators, backhoes, skid steers, forklifts).
• Ability to interpret plans and use surveying equipment for grade and alignment.

Responsibilities

• Load/unload trailers, set up materials and fuel equipment.
• Operate trenchless machines and heavy equipment on job sites.
• Survey, install and weld pipe as part of construction activities.
• Read plans and specifications and ensure proper staking and alignment.
• Maintain safety procedures and follow DOT requirements.

OUR DUTIES

We work year-round, outdoors and in all types of environments and weather conditions. On Mondays we report to Exeter, Nebraska (or other assigned locations) for mobilization and then travel to job sites throughout Nebraska and the Midwest. Our projects typically last one to two weeks at a time and we work weekends as needed.

Our day starts with a safety briefing and travel to our job site followed by loading/unloading trailers, setting up materials, fueling equipment, operating hand/power tools, trenchless machines and heavy equipment, surveying, installing and welding pipe, and other related construction activities.

Skilled laborers bring 3+ years of experience in the following skills or similar is preferred:

• Construction experience in underground utility, heavy highway, bridges, dirt work, and/or welding, etc.
• Trenchless experience operating specialized equipment such as Tunnel Boring, Guided Boring and/or Auger Boring systems.
• Heavy equipment experience loading/unloading materials, excavating soil, operating and maintaining excavators, backhoes, skidsteers, bucket loaders, and/or forklifts, etc.
• Jobsite set up experience interpreting plans and specifications, using surveying equipment to calculate grade and alignment.

Essential job duties include climbing ladders into and out of earthen pits/trenches; walking, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, stooping, squatting, lifting and climbing; full range of motion and use of arms and legs.

Successful applicants must have a valid driver’s license (Class A CDL w/Tanker Endorsement preferred) and pass a DOT physical, drug tests and background checks.
