Job summary

Michigan Technological University is seeking a Cook for a 12-month, full-time position in Residential Dining. The role focuses on proper preparation and production coordination of hot and cold menu items as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications

• High school diploma and culinary training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Three years experience in a commercial, institutional, restaurant or hotel kitchen as a skilled cook or equivalent.
• ServSafe certification is desirable.
• Ability to obtain a food safety certification within six months of employment.

Responsibilities

• Meet daily production and serving schedules across cafeteria lines, retail, luncheons, buffets and banquets.
• Requisition from stores or retrieve from storage to meet daily production and prep schedules.
• Operate all equipment used in preparation and production of menu items with proper safety procedures.
• Advise other department staff on portions, ingredients, preparation methods, presentation and quality control.
• Provide information to customers as requested.
• Maintain a clean, sanitary, and safe work area.
• Responsible for garbage removal and recycling in assigned area.
• Assist in training new employees and student assistants.
• Participate in training to accommodate operational changes.
• Adhere to uniform policies.
• Engage in continuous improvement initiatives and safety practices.
• Integrate safety into daily activities.
• Provide supervision to student assistants and other personnel as assigned.
