Job summary

Bear Valley Mountain Resort LLC is seeking an Assistant Ski Patrol Director for seasonal full-time work in Bear Valley, CA. The role supports daily Ski Patrol operations including avalanche mitigation, emergency medical response, mountain safety, risk management, staff training, and scheduling.

You will work closely with the Ski Patrol Director and leadership to coordinate staffing, safety policies, and operational priorities while providing field leadership and administrative support.

Qualifications

  • 5 years or more related experience.
  • Current California Blasters license or ability to obtain.
  • Experience in avalanche mitigation with use of explosives.
  • Current professional level certification EMT, OEC, or WFR.
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Proven ability in ski patrol leadership and training.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and computer skills including spreadsheets and word processing, email, web based applications.

Responsibilities

  • Ski at an expert level ability in all terrain and conditions.
  • Provide hands-on risk assessment guidance and direction to the ski patrol department.
  • Ability to coordinate Ski Patrol staff to complete avalanche mitigation work and perform daily activities.
  • Make operational decisions in the absence of the Director of Ski Patrol.
  • Ability to analyze/forecast snowpack and weather for operational needs.
  • Supervise the daily preparation and operation necessary to clear the mountain for opening to the public and closing in a timely manner.
  • Work with mountain operations departments such as lift maintenance, lift operations and grooming to ensure mountain is ready for opening and closing.
  • Assist in management of avalanche mitigation training program.
  • Communicate with the Director of ski Patrol any safety related issues and aid in addressing them in a timely manner.
  • Maintain ski patrol training records and documentation.
  • Ensure completion of all patient care records and files. Ensure completion and proper documentation of incidents resulting in accident investigations.
  • Maintaining training and equipment for lift evacuation and low-angle rescue
  • Ensure adequate training of Ski Patrol and First Aid Staff
  • Actively participate in management meetings and training sessions as required.
  • The Assistant Director of Ski Patrol is a dynamic job at a mountain resort. There are many emergency response and operational tasks that develop or change during the operation of the ski area
  • Other tasks and projects as assigned.
