Job summary

Inn at Bay Harbor in Harbor Springs, MI, is seeking experienced ski instructors to teach guests of all ages. You will organize and conduct group and private lessons, demonstrate techniques, and maintain a safe, engaging learning environment.

You should be comfortable outdoors in winter conditions, able to work weekends and holidays, and communicate PSIA guidelines. Prior ski-teaching experience and a friendly guest-service attitude are highly valued.

Qualifications

  • 18+ years of age.
  • Must be reliable, dependable, and timely.
  • PSIA/AASI Certified Level 1 status is strongly encouraged (or international equivalent).
  • Must have a genuine desire to pass on knowledge of the sport and inspire others to enjoy it.
  • A great guest service personality.
  • A growth mindset (an openness to learning and feedback).
  • Basic English language skills.
  • Previous experience in ski teaching preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Organize and conduct both group and private ski lessons for guests.
  • Demonstrate and communicate proper ski techniques in accordance with PSIA guidelines.
  • Be familiar with and adhere to the policies of the Snowsports School Manual and Team Member Handbook.
  • Create a safe, fun, and productive learning environment for students on green terrain.
  • Communicate effectively with students, supervisors, managers, and team members.
  • Work outdoors in varied winter weather and maintain a positive guest service attitude.

Teach guests how to ski and enjoy the winter environment. A love of the sport and the desire to continually improve both personal skiing skills and teaching ability are important.

Responsibilities
  • Must be comfortable setting up an environment conducive to safety, fun and learning.
  • Must have strong communication skills and be able to communicate effectively with students, supervisors, managers, and other team members.

  • Must be able to work outside in extreme and quickly changing winter weather conditions.

  • Must be able to maintain a great guest service attitude while working with beginner students on green terrain throughout the season.
  • Must have availability during holiday periods (December 26th‑31st, January 16th‑18th, February 13th‑15th).
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Organize and conduct both group and private ski lessons for guests.
  • Demonstrate and communicate proper ski techniques in accordance with the guidelines established by the Highlands Snowsports School and Professional Ski Instructors of America (PSIA).
  • Be familiar with and adhere to the policies and procedures of the resort Team Member Handbook and the Snowsports School Manual.

Physical Demands
  • Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Must be able to ski for up to 8 hours per day.
  • Must be able to teach ski lessons in harsh winter weather (cold, snow, wind, rain, sleet, ice).
Work Environment
  • The instructor work environment is primarily outdoors in the winter weather. Temperature can vary greatly throughout the day and from day‑to‑day.
  • Must be able to ski in snow, low visibility, powder, ice, hard pack, rain, sleet.
Position Type & Expected Hours of Work
  • The ski instructor position is full‑time, part‑time, peak part‑time, or temporary based on candidate availability.
  • Typical work day is 8:30am – 4:30pm.
  • Must be available for weekends, weekdays, and holidays.
  • Some instructional programs occur in the evening after 4:30pm but never after 9:00pm.
