Job summary

The Highlands is seeking motivated ski instructors to teach guests of all ages. You will organize and conduct group and private lessons, demonstrate proper techniques, and maintain a high level of guest service in winter conditions at Harbor Springs, Michigan.

Flexible hours include full-time, part-time or seasonal opportunities, with duties aligned to PSIA guidelines and Highlands standards for safety and fun.

Qualifications

  • Must be 18+ years old.
  • PSIA/AASI Level 1 certification is strongly encouraged (or international equivalent).
  • Must have a genuine desire to teach and inspire others to enjoy skiing.
  • Excellent guest service orientation.
  • Growth mindset with openness to feedback.
  • Basic English language skills.

Responsibilities

  • Organize and conduct group and private ski lessons for guests.
  • Demonstrate proper ski techniques per Highlands Snowsports School standards.
  • Communicate with students, supervisors and team members effectively.
  • Adhere to resort policies and the Snowsports School Manual.
  • Work outdoors in winter conditions and be available during holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Must be comfortable setting up an environment conducive to safety, fun and learning.
  • Must have strong communication skills and be able to communicate effectively with students, supervisors, managers, and other team members.
  • Must have a genuine desire to pass on knowledge of the sport and inspire others to enjoy it.
  • Must be able to work outside in extreme and quickly changing winter weather conditions.
  • Must be able to work in a physically challenging environment.
  • Must be able to maintain a great guest service attitude while working with beginner students on green terrain throughout the season.
  • Must have availability during holiday periods (December 26th – 31st, January 16th – 18th, February 13th – 15th).
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Organize and conduct both group and private ski lessons for guests.
  • Demonstrate and communicate proper ski techniques in accordance with the guidelines established by the Highlands Snowsports School and Professional Ski Instructors of America (PSIA).
  • Be familiar with and adhere to the policies and procedures of the resort Team Member Handbook and the Snowsports School Manual.
Qualifications
  • 18 + years of age.
  • Must be reliable, dependable, and timely.
  • PSIA/AASI Certified Level 1 status strongly encouraged (or international equivalent).
  • Must have a genuine desire to pass on knowledge of the sport and inspire others to enjoy it.
  • A great guest service personality.
  • A growth mindset (an openness to learning and feedback).
  • Basic English language skills.
  • Previous experience in ski teaching preferred.
Physical Demands
  • Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Must be able to ski for up to 8 hours per day.
  • Must be able to teach ski lessons in harsh winter weather (cold, snow, wind, rain, sleet, ice).
Work Environment
  • The instructor work environment is primarily outdoors in the winter weather. Temperature can vary greatly throughout the day and from day-to-day.
  • Must be able to ski in snow, low visibility, powder, ice, hard pack, rain, sleet.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
  • The ski instructor position is full-time, part-time, peak part-time, or temporary based on candidate availability.
  • Typical work day is 8:30am – 4:30pm.
  • Must be available for weekends, weekdays, and holidays.
  • Some instructional programs occur in the evening after 4:30pm but never after 9:00pm.
