Job summary

The Rinks Foundation in the United States is seeking a Skating Instructor to teach skating skills within Learn-to-Skate and group formats, support shows and events, and promote The Rinks values.

You will follow the official Learn-to-Skate USA curriculum, provide constructive feedback, and help grow the sport while delivering a welcoming, professional experience for skaters and guests.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred but not required.
  • Experience in figure skating including competitive history, show experience, or coaching.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. Figure Skating, Learn to Skate USA, and PSA credentials.
  • PSA Basic Accreditation or USFS Level 1 Coach Accreditation pursued.
  • For LTS/Junior roles: LTS membership or USFS coach compliance required.
  • For private lesson roles: US Figure Skating Coach Compliance required.
  • Professional, energetic teaching style with strong time management.

Responsibilities

  • Instruct group classes across Learn-to-Skate, Home School, and events.
  • Follow Learn-to-Skate USA curriculum and attend PowerPlay sessions when needed.
  • Assist in productions of facility shows and competitions.
  • Provide positive feedback to skaters during evaluations.
  • Maintain professional conduct and promote The Rinks values.
  • Communicate program information to guests and support excellence in skating.
  • Recommend skater advancement paths within The Rinks programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Title:

Skating Instructor

Pay Details:

The starting hourly rate for this position is $33.00 per hour.

This position is responsible for teaching skating skills in groups, supporting company or facility events, and promoting The Rinks while embodying the company’s values and mission.

Responsibilities
  • Instruct group classes in various formats, including our Learn-to-Skate Program, Home School Program, community classes, facility and company-sponsored events, figure skating camps, etc.

  • Follow the facility’s Learn-to-Skate curriculum (based on U.S. Figure Skating’s “Learn to Skate USA” model) and agree to attend PowerPlay sessions if teaching LTS or other Group Classes (Academy)

  • Assist in the production and promotion of facility shows and competitions

  • Provide positive, constructive feedback when evaluating skaters

  • Maintain a professional and ethical approach to a growing clientele

  • Meet all company standards and comply with instructor guidelines

  • Interact with customers in a welcoming and professional manner while promoting The Rinks’ values

  • Communicate facility and company program information to guests and support the company’s pursuit of excellence in all areas of figure skating, hockey, and recreational skating

  • Provide recommendations for skater advancement through the programs offered in The Rinks facilities

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Skills
  • Minimum 18 years of age

  • High School Diploma/GED preferred but not required

  • Experience in the sport of figure skating, including competitive history, show experience, and/or coaching experience

  • Comprehensive knowledge of U.S. Figure Skating, Learn to Skate USA, and the Professional Skaters Association

  • Actively pursuing education opportunities within the sport and has a PSA Basic Accreditation or USFS Level 1 Coach Accreditation

  • For an LTS Instructor and Junior Instructor (no private lessons): Has current Learn To Skate USA Instructor Membership OR current USFS Coach Compliance and Membership

  • For Skating Instructors (private lessons): Has current U.S. Figure Skating Coach Compliance (See U.S. Figure Skating website for a list of requirements)

  • Present a consistent, professional, motivating, and enthusiastic teaching style and able to direct a class efficiently using time management skills

  • Passionate about growing the sport of figure skating and involved in the growth of the sport

  • Is a service-minded, self-starter who is highly motivated and possesses characteristics of energy, enthusiasm, assertiveness, drive, and a sense of fun

  • Must possess outstanding interpersonal and communication (verbal & written) skills, including enjoying interacting with guests and creating a welcoming environment for skaters

  • Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals with varied personalities and at different levels

  • Able to maintain accurate records

  • Able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and early mornings/evenings

  • Able to communicate The Rinks vision and commitment to quality service, products, and entertainment
