Job summary

Happy Hearts Fund (Now All Hands and Hearts - Smart Response) seeks a short-term supervisor to lead volunteer teams in disaster-recovery construction projects. The role centers on training volunteers, ensuring safety, and delivering quality work on impacted sites.

You will manage skilled and unskilled volunteers, coordinate tasks, track hours and materials, and represent the organization with beneficiaries and community members. Position ends 2026-11-07.

Qualifications

  • Education High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Related Experience 1+ years experience in residential construction. Experience in leading teams of volunteers in a post disaster environment.
  • Special Competencies/Certifications Must have good written and oral communication skills. Needs to be well organized and able to prioritize and manage multiple concurrent tasks. Strong leadership skills with a proactive approach to identify and solve problems. Able to manage a large workload and perform in a fast paced environment. Valid driver's license required and clean driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Lead teams of staff and volunteers in residential construction projects and offer skilled troubleshooting and technical advice on worksites.
  • Teach unskilled volunteers construction skills such as: mold sanitation and construction skills for interior spaces (subfloor, framing, critical repair, drywall, etc)
  • Train unskilled volunteers how to safely use power tools (e.g., circular saw, impact driver, reciprocating saw, hammer drill, etc.)
  • Lead teams of volunteers in less technical response scopes of work including muck and gut and debris removal
  • Ensure compliance with work scope and quality standards
  • Communicate tasks and expectations clearly to team members, providing effective technical training and constructive feedback when necessary to ensure compliance with project safety and quality standards, tracking near misses and incidents and updating safety procedures accordingly
  • Maintain a clean, safe and organized work site
  • Maintain records of work completed including tracking material usage, volunteer hours, and scopes performed, and updating these on organizational platforms such as Salesforce and Google Drive
  • Positively represent the organization on base and within the community, maintaining excellent relationships with beneficiaries, community members, and other stakeholders
  • Perform other duties as required

Position Purpose

A versatile position within a dynamic nonprofit that helps communities recover after disasters and gets children back in school. The position is responsible for leading groups of skilled and unskilled volunteers in construction and response projects in disaster-impacted communities. This is a short term position ending on November 7th, 2026.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands
  • Constantly works in outdoor adverse weather conditions
  • Frequently moves items weighing up to 40 lbs on work site or on base
  • Frequently operates construction equipment (table saws, impact drivers, drills, and more)
  • Frequently ascends/descends ladders and scaffolding
  • Living in communal environment

Compensation & Benefits
  • Pay rate is $15 - $15.25 USD / hour, and up to $15.50/hour for highly qualified candidates who have previous experience in this role.
