Job summary

Blattner Company, a renewable energy contractor based in Avon, Minnesota, seeks a Site Safety Tech to lead site-wide safety programs and drive accident prevention on gas power projects. This role shapes safety policy, mentors crews, and ensures compliance with federal, state, and local standards.

You will spend most time in the field conducting audits, incident investigations, and presenting findings to site leadership, coordinating with contractors and internal teams to reduce risk and protect

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety or health required or equivalent experience.
  • BCSP certification preferred.
  • At least 2 years of construction safety experience.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean MVR.
  • Willing to relocate to project site community.
  • Electrical, crane, or structural safety knowledge preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and own site-level safety programs, audits, and incident management.
  • Follow HSE policies and procedures to identify and mitigate environmental and worker risks.
  • Identify risky behavior, escalate issues, and coach teams on safe work practices.
  • Investigate incidents using regulatory processes and provide corrective actions.
  • Develop information for safety-related items during Kickoffs and safety briefings.
  • Prepare audit reports with findings and recommended corrective actions.

Job description

Blattner is expanding our energy construction leadership into gas power generation. This is a unique opportunity to help build this new business from the ground up, backed by a company with decades of proven success in the energy sector. This position will help us shape the processes and standards that carry this business forward to deliver end-to-end hybrid energy solutions.

The Site Safety Tech implements and leads site-wide safety programs and accident prevention initiatives in compliance with corporate, federal, state, and local standards. Operates with limited supervision and serves as the site’s primary safety advisor, influencing leadership on safety policy and practice. Approximately 75% of work time is spent in the field conducting assessments, engaging with crews and subcontractors, and mentoring lower-level safety staff to ensure consistent application of safety standards.

A DAY IN THE LIFE
  • Leads and owns site-level safety programs, including audits, incident management compliance, and emergency response planning.
  • Follows the organization’s health, safety, and environment (HSE) policies, procedures, and mandatory instructions to identify and mitigate environmental risks and risks to the well-being of self and others in the workplace.
  • Identifies patterns of risky behavior within the team and takes appropriate action to resolve them, escalating serious issues as appropriate.
  • Investigates standard incidents using current regulatory and compliance processes, systems, and procedures, and takes action to solve immediate compliance issues.
  • Partners with senior colleagues to advise site leadership on more complex problems.
  • Influences site leadership on safety policy and practice; provides guidance on complex issues requiring interpretation and judgment.
  • Coaches site teams and employees on how to identify and eliminate hazards.
  • Facilitates Incident Management responsibilities to ensure compliance with Drug and/or Alcohol Testing, Medical Treatment, and Return to Work programs.
  • Carries out specified audit activities and draft reports of findings, including recommended corrective actions, for review by site leadership and/or senior colleagues.
  • Assists with resolving queries from internal or external customers or suppliers by providing information on processes and related policies, referring issues to senior colleagues or managers where necessary for interpretation of policy.
  • May assist with developing information for safety-related items during Kickoffs and facilitates presentation of safety-related information.
  • Assists with executing a communications plan within established internal communication systems and procedures.
  • Collates and analyzes data using preset tools, methods, and formats, working independently.
  • Organizes and prepares documents using a variety of applications for technology devices, such as standard office software. Also responsible for gathering and summarizing data for special reports.
  • Develops own capabilities by participating in assessment and development planning activities as well as formal and informal training and coaching; gains or maintains external professional accreditation, where relevant, to improve performance and fulfill personal potential.
  • Maintains an understanding of relevant technology, external regulation, and industry best practices through ongoing education, attending conferences, and reading specialist media.
What You’ll Need
  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety or health; or equivalent combination of training and/or experience.
  • Recognized certification from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) preferred.
  • 2 or more years of construction safety experience.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and an acceptable motor vehicle driving record (MVR).
  • Able to relocate to the community of the project site.
  • Preferably has electrical safety, crane safety, and structural knowledge.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for risk assessment and incident analysis.
  • Effective oral, presentational, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to advise cross-functional teams with the ability to present information to large groups of employees.
  • Ability to work independently and make informed decisions.Proficient in Microsoft Office (Visio preferred).
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills.

$86,098.00 - $124,841.00 Individual Compensation to be determined based on the applicant's applicable experience and qualifications balanced against internal equity.
