The Wesson Group, LLC, headquartered in Johnstown, NY, is growing its team with a Site Safety Manager to oversee safety on heavy civil and renewable energy projects across Western, Central, and Northern NY.

Ideal candidates will have CHST certification (or willingness to obtain) and experience in self-performed construction. The role includes enforcing safety protocols, managing permits, and training staff on safe practices.

Qualifications

• CHST certification is required (or willing to take the exam).
• CSP certification is preferred.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to listen and take feedback objectively.
• Knowledge of OSHA standards and regulations for the trade being managed.
• Good recordkeeping of safety activities.
• Access to all work locations including rough terrain for site assessment.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Responsibilities

• Preview projects and project sites to determine safety related risks.
• Assess ongoing work conditions at site location to ensure compliance.
• Collaborate with project management teams and field staff to develop and implement safety solutions.
• Maintain safety paperwork including permits.
• Maintain safety training certifications and staff matrix.
• Train company employees in safe work practices.
• Ensure compliance with all safety practices for employees and subcontractors.

Site Safety Manager

We are currently seeking a Site Safety Manager with a background in self-performed heavy and highway construction or renewable energy construction to join our family of dedicated and hard-working professionals.

• Preview projects and project sites before work begins to determine safety related risks.
• Assess ongoing work conditions at site location to ensure compliance.
• Work with project management teams and field staff to develop and implement solutions to safety related issues on project sites.
• Maintain safety related paperwork including permits.
• Maintain safety training certifications and matrix of site personnel.
• Train company employees in safe work practices.
• Ensure compliance with all safety practices and protocols of employees and subcontractors.

Skills & Qualifications

• CHST Certification is required (or willing to take the exam).

• Good communications skills – the ability to communicate effectively both in the written and spoken word.
• Ability to listen – the ability to listen well and take in feedback from the employee perspective without passing judgment.
• Knowledge of OSHA standards and regulations pertaining to the specific trade or activity being managed.
• Good recordkeeping abilities – the Site Safety Manager must be able to maintain good records of all safety related activities.
• Ability to access all work locations. A significant amount of construction work takes place on rough terrain ground level which requires the Site Safety Manager to be able to assess the work to evaluate it.
• Knowledge of the specific skilled trade or type of work. This assists the Site Safety Manager in being able to design and implement solutions for the company.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.)
• Salary range: $85,000-$110,000
• Position eligible for Company Performance Bonuses
