Qualifications

  • OSHA Outreach Training Certificate (OSHA 500/501) preferred.
  • DOE site experience and badging considerations.
  • 5 years in construction safety/health environment with full duties.

Job description

Site Safety Manager – Los Alamos, NM

Apollo Mechanical National Projects Division has an immediate opening for a self‑motivated Site Safety Manager to help build and be a key member of a high‑functioning construction project team in Los Alamos, NM. This position will coordinate and administer Site Safety Programs for compliance with federal, state, local and company safety and occupational health standards and procedures.

Responsibilities include providing safety resource support for assigned operating units, training and permitting, leading or participating in incident investigations and emergency response, conducting site inspections and tracking corrective actions to closure, performing job safety analysis, and maintaining jobsite‑specific documentation. The role also carries out additional assignments as directed by the Health & Safety Manager and delivers overall safety and health leadership to ensure all employees return “Home Health – Home Safe” each shift.

  • Working knowledge of OSHA 1926 Safety and Health Regulations for Construction and OSHA 1910 General Industry.
  • Working knowledge and ability to apply the hierarchy of controls to eliminate or mitigate hazards while ensuring team and project success.
  • Experience and skill in the preparation and communication of safety and industrial hygiene technical information to technical and non‑technical personnel.
  • A college degree (Associates, Bachelor, Masters) in Occupational Safety and Health or other related fields of study in Occupational Health, Environmental or Safety Sciences (e.g., Industrial Hygiene, Fire Protection, Environmental Protection). Previous experience (6 months minimum) in safety, health, environmental or emergency response area is also required; or
  • Professional certification as an Occupational Health Safety Technologist (OHST), Construction Safety Health Technologist (CHST), from the Council on Certification of Health, Environmental, and Safety Technologists (CCHEST) or Associate Safety Professional (ASP) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) from Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BSCP). Previous experience in safety, health, environmental, or emergency response (6 months minimum) is also required; or
  • Five (5) years of work experience in the construction environment where 100% of the position’s day‑to‑day job functions entailed safety, health, or environmental protection.
  • A Certificate of Completion from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration Outreach Training Program for either of the following courses preferred:
    • OSHA 500 Trainer Course in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Construction Industry.
    • OSHA 501 Trainer Course in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for General Industry.
Desired/Preferred Skill And Qualifications
  • Professional certification such as ASP, CSP, or CIH.
  • Experience working in a Category II Nuclear Operating Facility.
  • Knowledge and application of Integrated Safety Management, Integrated Work Management, and other DOE industrial hygiene and safety procedures in a construction environment.
  • Experience identifying, applying, and interpreting federal codes, standards, and regulations in safety and IH program areas, including construction safety, chemical safety, beryllium, exposure assessment.
  • Working knowledge and application of techniques and procedures for industrial hygiene exposure assessment.
  • Working knowledge and application of techniques and procedures for industrial hygiene exposure assessment (both qualitative and quantitative), to include sampling and sampling techniques/instrumentation, sample analysis, and selection/implementation of controls.
  • Experience implementing a respiratory protection program.
  • Experience working in a radiological facility.
  • Ability to obtain badging and maintain a Department of Energy security clearance.
