Job Description

Site Reliability Engineering at Ford Motor Company plays a critical role in maintaining and improving the reliability, scalability, and performance of our services. As a Software Engineering Manager – Site Reliability, you will manage a team of Site Reliability Engineers, own observability tools, and deliver a high-quality experience for your customers.

Responsibilities

  1. Lead Site Reliability Engineering teams responsible for building, owning, and supporting our observability platform.
  2. Manage and grow software engineers through mentorship, career coaching, and performance feedback.
  3. Apply advanced concepts, theories, and principles to create innovative solutions for complex or risky business situations.
  4. Review, evaluate, and provide feedback on product designs and architectures with a focus on software engineering.
  5. Seek to improve the engineering delivery pipeline to reduce cycle time and enhance quality and security.
  6. Develop and promote new engineering principles and practices to improve organizational efficiency.
  7. Evaluate and recommend new products and technologies.
  8. Provide thought leadership across organizations to eliminate knowledge silos.
  9. Drive continuous improvement and foster a learning organization.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience in enterprise environments including public cloud, on-premises, and virtual systems.
  • 7+ years of hands-on experience in SRE, DevOps, or Platform Engineering roles.
  • 5+ years in leadership managing teams and delivering software products.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in relevant fields.
  • Experience with software operations, CI/CD, observability, and support of global software products.
  • Strong architecture skills supporting reactive, distributed, secure, and performant systems.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to influence enterprise decisions.
  • Experience in building enterprise-scale mobile applications and managing complex dependencies.

  • This role is remote; if within 50 miles of Dearborn, MI, on-site presence 1-2 times per week is expected.
