Job summary

Piper Companies is seeking a Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) to support a Kubernetes-based platform in highly regulated cloud and on-premises environments. This long-term contract role requires onsite work five days a week at Fort Meade, MD, and a TS/SCI clearance with FSP.

You will focus on Kubernetes infrastructure, Linux administration, automation, and cloud technologies. You will collaborate with senior engineers to improve reliability, scalability, security, and operational performance

Qualifications

• 6-8 years of experience in SRE/DevOps or related roles.
• Hands-on Kubernetes clusters experience, especially Rancher.
• Cloud platforms: AWS/Azure; GovCloud a plus.
• Strong Linux administration and troubleshooting.
• Infrastructure as Code with Terraform/CloudFormation or similar.
• Programming in Python, Go, or Ruby; scripting skills.
• Observability tools: Prometheus, Grafana; centralized logging.
• CI/CD and GitOps with ArgoCD; deployment automation.
• Experience in regulated environments (FedRAMP High/DoD IL5) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Build, maintain, and support Kubernetes clusters across on-prem and AWS.
• Monitor reliability, availability, and performance with observability.
• Develop automation to improve efficiency and reduce manual work.
• Define and track SLIs/SLOs and error budgets with teams.
• Support compliance, security, auditing, and continuous monitoring.
• IaC enhancements using Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar tools.
• Improve CI/CD pipelines and deployment processes for scale.
• Collaborate with Security, Platform, and App teams to deliver reliable infra.
