Job summary

Piper Companies is seeking a Site Reliability Engineer to build and support a Kubernetes-based platform in highly regulated cloud and on-prem environments. The role centers on reliability, automation, and security, requiring on-site work at Fort Meade, MD and a TS/SCI with FSP clearance.

You will work with senior engineers to enhance CI/CD pipelines, IaC, and monitoring while ensuring compliance with DoD/regulatory requirements. This is a long-term contract position with competitive benefits.

Qualifications

• 6-8 years of experience in SRE/DevOps or related roles.
• Strong hands-on experience building and supporting Kubernetes clusters in production.
• Experience with AWS, Azure, GovCloud or similar cloud platforms.
• Strong Linux administration skills and automation experience.
• IaC using Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar tools.
• Programming or scripting in Python or Go.
• Experience with observability tools like Prometheus and Grafana.
• Exposure to CI/CD and GitOps practices (ArgoCD) and FedRAMP/DoD reg.
• Experience in regulated environments is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Build, maintain, and support Kubernetes clusters across on-prem and AWS.
• Monitor platform reliability, availability, and performance with observability tooling.
• Develop automation to improve operational efficiency and reduce manual work.
• Define and track SLI/SLOs and error budgets with the team.
• Support compliance, security, auditing, and continuous monitoring in regulated environments.
• Contribute to IaC development and CI/CD pipeline enhancements.
• Collaborate with Security, Platform, and App teams to deliver reliable infra.
