Job description

Site Reliability Engineer - CTJ - Top Secret

The Microsoft Defender team is responsible for delivering a constantly evolving set of services and solutions to meet the challenging landscape of our ever-evolving attackers. This role involves building and delivering cloud solutions at scale, providing on-call operational support, and collaborating with engineering teams to ensure services are highly stable, meet performance SLAs, and satisfy internal and external customers in US Government clouds.

We are seeking an individual to operate production services, contribute to reliability improvements, and work with senior engineers to enhance security, observability, and throughput of Defender products.

Responsibilities

  • 24x7 On-Call Rotation: Participate in a regular on-call schedule to monitor service health, respond to incidents, and escalate complex issues as needed.
  • Support Development & Design: Make basic code changes to improve reliability, security, and observability, and engage in design/code reviews with guidance from senior engineers.
  • Incident Response & Postmortems: Troubleshoot issues during on-call, mitigate impact, and contribute to postmortem documentation and review meetings.
  • Operational Improvements: Use existing tools to identify and suggest fixes for recurring issues affecting performance, reliability, or efficiency.
  • Safe Deployment & Configuration: Apply safe deployment practices and automation to manage configuration and data changes across product components.
  • Performance Analysis: Assist in evaluating service performance and identifying areas for deeper analysis under the guidance of experienced engineers.
  • Technical Growth: Build foundational knowledge in distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, and product operations to contribute to incremental improvements.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field; Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience with PowerShell and C#

Security Clearance Requirements:

  • The successful candidate must have an active U.S. Government Top Secret Security Clearance and be able to meet Microsoft, customer and government security screening requirements. Failure to maintain or obtain the appropriate clearance may result in employment action up to termination.
  • Clearance Verification: This position requires successful verification of the stated security clearance prior to offer.
  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
  • Citizenship & Citizenship Verification: This position requires verification of U.S. citizenship. Citizenship will be verified via valid documents to meet legal requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 2+ years of technical experience in software engineering, network engineering, or systems administration OR equivalent experience.
