Job summary

Wharton-Smith, Inc. in Sugar Land, TX is seeking a Project Superintendent I to oversee site operations, lead field teams, and ensure safety, quality, schedule, and budget goals are met on assigned projects.

This role requires strong leadership, exceptional communication with PMs, clients, and subcontractors, and the ability to manage field documentation, scheduling, and safety programs across multiple crews.

Qualifications

• Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent; associate degree preferred.
• 12+ years of construction-related experience with success on multimillion-dollar projects.
• Proven leadership and supervisory skills for field personnel and project priorities.
• Strong communication and interpersonal abilities with PMs, clients, subcontractors, inspectors, vendors, and field personnel.
• Ability to coordinate resources, manpower, schedules, and execution requirements.
• Current Competent Person training in trenching, scaffolding, rigging, confined space, and fall protection.
• OSHA 30-Hour certification and First Aid/CPR are required.
• Proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office products.
• Willingness to travel within Wharton-Smith territories and work extended hours as needed.

Responsibilities

• Supervise field operations to ensure safety, quality, schedule, and budget compliance.
• Lead field teams, subcontractors, and staff to achieve project goals.
• Coordinate permits, inspections, and site setup; manage field documentation and daily reports.
• Maintain as-built drawings, log field purchase orders, and oversee equipment logs.
• Manage safety programs, conduct pre-job meetings, and lead site safety initiatives.
• Participate in pre-job planning, scheduling, and closeout activities.
• Mentor staff and participate in staffing decisions for projects.
