Job description

Overview

Vanderlande’s Site Management Department manages the installation and project execution of Material Handling Systems, Warehouse Automation, and Parcel Sortation systems for our customers throughout North America. The increasing number of new projects and their geographical spread means the team is growing and expanding. You will report hierarchically to the Electrical Department Manager, and daily to the Sr. Site Manager and/or Construction Manager. In this position, you will be working within a Site Management project team to manage the installation of material handling automation and sortation systems. You will oversee one (or more) electrical subcontractor(s) working on large and complex projects, ensuring the electrical installation is performed safely while maintaining compliance with quality standards, project specifications, and technical requirements.

Position Summary:

You will be the primary point of contact for electrical subcontractors, providing clear and detailed communications to the internal project staff, subcontractors, and customer. Typical project length is between 6-12 months, during which you will be responsible for tracking electrical progress and quality, forecasting schedule adherence, maintaining redline updates, and resolving or escalating any discrepancies in electrical design, customer standards, provided drawings, or other information. You are expected to be initiative-taking in reporting requirements, resolving logistical, technical, or organizational problems, and ensuring effective communication with all required parties regarding progress, out-of-scope work, non-conformities, and other site-related issues. This role involves up to 100% travel, and is expected to work 50 to 60 hours per week with overtime after 40 hours worked. The position includes a cost-covered home leave benefit at 6-week intervals, as well as a phone, computer, and relevant training opportunities.

Essential Functions (Job Duties and Responsibilities):

  • Ensure subcontractors execute safe installations, modifications, additions, and/or repairs of electrical systems, as well as associated materials and equipment within the material handling industry.
  • Directly responsible for managing subcontractors with expected crew sizes of up to 100 concurrent workers, on projects totaling over $50M.
  • Engage actively with onsite vendors to support the electrical installation.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors to confirm project scope of work and ensure personnel, materials, tools, equipment, and schedule adherence to meet construction timelines.
  • Coordinate with electrical subcontractors, project team, and customer to ensure electrical equipment and devices are installed according to electrical code requirements and internal/customer specifications.
  • Provide consistent and independent verification of electrical project progress during daily/weekly meetings between subcontractors and the project team.
  • Ensure all aspects of electrical installation are completed per detailed engineering drawings, and distribute redline updates to subcontractors and the engineering team.
  • Perform weekly full electrical progress assessments with subcontractors and align on progress versus plan.
  • Validate and maintain all required turnover documentation from subcontractors, including area ready reports, installation completion checks, pre-power checks, and other commissioning documents.
  • Maintain the electrical project budget by forecasting issues, mitigating change orders, and ensuring adherence to expected hours throughout the project lifecycle.

Position Description:

  • Ensure all industrial networking is installed and certified as detailed in the engineering drawings.
  • Collaborate with electrical supervisors across project sites to find innovations and improvements for efficiency, cost, and design.
  • Be accountable for onsite supervision of electrical subcontractors to ensure project completion within budget, schedule, quality, and performance standards. Evaluate progress against goals.
  • Assist project leadership in reviewing project documents, plans, and specifications, directing installation priorities, resolving construction difficulties, coordinating field installations, project close-outs, and supporting subcontractors and customer relationships.
  • Complete assigned tasks within standard operating procedures, project costs, time constraints, and quality standards.
  • Assist with routine equipment trials to ensure they meet specifications and standards, and that equipment is installed per Vanderlande and client standards.
  • Support training of subcontractors in the installation of Vanderlande and other equipment.
  • Maintain a high level of safety awareness and a rigorous standard of personal and site safety.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience working with electro-mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to travel on short notice to address urgent project requirements.
