Job summary

OP Mobility in Anderson, SC seeks an Assembly Process Engineer - Bonding to launch and troubleshoot automated bonding systems for high-volume automotive exterior components. You will work with robots, adhesive dispensing, ultrasonic welding, laser cutting, and vision systems to ensure production readiness.

Responsibilities include developing bonding processes, validating surface treatments, and supporting Start of Production with travel to Greer, IL, Spring Hill, TN, and Toledo, OH up to 8 weeks

Qualifications

• Bachelor-level degree in a relevant engineering field.
• 12 months of experience launching automated assembly and bonding equipment.
• Experience with robots, adhesive dispensing systems, and ultrasonic welding is preferred.

Responsibilities

Job title: Assembly Process Engineer - Bonding

Location: Anderson, SC, U.S.A, OPmobility Exterior USA LLC

Job duties: Engineer, launch and troubleshoot automated assembly and high performance bonding equipment, including industrial robots; automated polyurethane adhesive dispensing systems; high frequency ultrasonic welding systems; laser cutting systems; automated inspection and vision systems; fastening/assembly tools; and PLCs to manage sequence of operations, to support high volume production of painted plastic automotive exterior components including liftgates, bumpers, rocker panels and grilles, delivered to original OEMs. Develop/standardize bonding and assembly processes using 2K adhesives, validating surface treatment technologies like flaming and priming to ensure superior adhesion on low-surface-energy substrates.

Travel requirements: Required travel to our manufacturing plants in Greer SC; Normal, IL; Spring Hill, TN; and Toledo, OH, to support, validate, and troubleshoot installation, debugging, deployment, and commissioning of automated assembly and bonding equipment to achieve production readiness and Start of Production, up to 8 weeks P/A (equal to 15% in annual travel).

Education: Bachelor, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or Materials Science/Engineering, or related.

Experience: Twelve months’ experience as Engineer or related, engineering and launching automated assembly and high-performance bonding equipment, including robots; automated adhesive dispensing systems; and ultrasonic welding systems, to support production of plastic automotive exterior components, or related.
