Job summary

Hunter Contracting Co. is seeking skilled installers to set up, align, and commission heavy equipment at water and wastewater facilities. The role requires reading blueprints, rigging, and precise assembly using hand and power tools, with attention to safety and quality.

Candidate should have a high school diploma or GED, 3+ years related experience, and ideally an apprenticeship or equivalent training. E-Verify and background checks are performed.

Qualifications

• Minimum of three years experience in a related field.
• Formal Apprenticeship or equivalent training is required or preferred.
• Must read blueprints and schematics.
• Knowledge of load bearing properties of ropes, cables, hoists, and cranes.
• Ability to estimate measurements and apply technical rules.

Responsibilities

Job Purpose:

To install, repair, replace, and dismantle machinery and heavy equipment according to layout plans, blueprints, and other drawings at water and wastewater treatment plants.

Roles, Duties, & Responsibilities:

• Reads blueprints and schematic drawings to determine work procedures.
• Unloads and inspects new equipment and machinery then moves it into position by utilizing hoisting devices, such as pulleys and cables, hoists, dollies, rollers, and trucks.
• Assembles and installs equipment, such as shafting, conveyers, and tram rails using hand tools and power tools.
• Constructs foundation for machines using hand tools and building materials, such as wood, concrete and steel.
• Assembles machines and bolts, welds, rivets, or otherwise fastens them to foundation or other structures using hand tools and power tools.
• Attaches moving parts and subassemblies to basic assembly unit.
• Bolts parts, such as side deck plates, jaw plates, and journals to basic assembly unit.
• Connects power units to machines or steam piping to equipment and tests unit to evaluate its mechanical operation.
• Aligns gears and wheels, attaches motors, and connects belts according to the manufacturer’s blueprints and drawings by utilizing hoists, jacks, hand tools, squares, rules, micrometers, and plumb bobs.
• Dismantles machinery and equipment for shipment to installation site.
• Installs shims, adjusts tension on nuts and bolts, or positions parts using measuring instruments to set specified clearances between moving and stationary pars.
• Operates engine lathe to grind, file, and turn machine parts to dimensional specifications.
• Repairs and lubricates machines and equipment.
• Replaces defective parts of machine or adjusts clearances and alignment of moving parts.
• Works closely with electricians, engineers, and manufacturer’s representatives to install equipment.
• Adheres to all Hunter Contracting Co. safety policies, procedures, and instructions from management.
• Performs other incidental and related duties as required and assigned.
• Work Qualifications:
• Must possess knowledge of the load bearing properties of ropes, cables, hoists, and cranes to determine what device to use for moving machinery.
• Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
• Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
• Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved to get the job done.
• Determining causes of operating errors and strong knowledge of mathematics to solve problems.
• Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language, including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
• Possesses the ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense.
• Possesses the ability to estimate a measurement and makes decisions based on measurable information.
• Uses logical step-by-step procedures.
• Approaches work in a meticulous, thorough, and detailed manner.
• Works within precise limits or standards of accuracy.
• Possesses the ability to work at various heights without fear.

Education & Work Experience Requirements:

• High school diploma or GED; AND
• Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in a related field; AND,
• Completion of a formal Apprenticeship program; OR,
• Any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
