Job summary

Tower Semiconductor seeks a researcher to advance silicon photonics devices and related process technologies in a VLSI foundry setting. You will design test structures, characterize devices, and coordinate experiments to boost technology development and yield, collaborating with process engineering, test teams, and customers.

The ideal candidate has a PhD or equivalent experience, 5+ years in related work, and strong analytical and people skills.

Qualifications

  • PhD preferred in engineering disciplines such as EE, materials science or physics.
  • 5+ years in silicon photonics process and device development or a 5-year PhD program.
  • Strong analytical and interpersonal skills.
  • Expert understanding of silicon photonic and optoelectronic devices.

Responsibilities

  • Research, develop and improve silicon photonics devices and process technologies in a foundry environment.
  • Design test structures and define tests for device characterization (ICCAP, LabView).
  • Coordinate experiments toward technology development and yield enhancement.
  • Collaborate with process engineering, test teams and customers to define goals and solutions.
  • Support technology transfer from development to production and to worldwide facilities.

Job description

Responsible for research, development, and improvement of existing and newly developed devices & process technologies for manufacture of Silicon Photonics-related devices in a semiconductor wafer foundry. The employee exercises independent judgment in developing methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria.

Process technology development and implementation in a VLSI manufacturing, foundry environment.

Silicon photonic device design, characterization and optimization

Participate in and coordinate experiments toward technology development and yield enhancement.

Work with process engineering team, test team, customers to define goals and manufacturing solutions.

Design test structures (in CAD environment) and define tests for device characterization (ICCAP, LabView).

Provide support to resolve customer issues, problems and questions.

Support transfer from development to production for processes variants.

Support process transfer to worldwide fabrication facilities if needed.

Job Requirements

  • PhD preferred, in engineering discipline: Electrical Eng, Materials Sci & Eng, Physics or related.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Silicon Photonics-related process and device development role or 5-year PhD program in related field.
  • Position requires very strong analytical and people skills.
  • Expert-level understanding of silicon photonic and optoelectronic devices.
  • Specific computer skills desired: experience with optical simulation software (e.g. Lumerical) ability to read and edit mask layout data (e.g. Cadence Virtuoso software), experience with statistical data processing software (e.g. R or JMP), device and process TCAD simulation tools (e.g. Medici, Sentaurus etc.), experience with semiconductor fab lot management software (e.g. PROMIS or Workstream).
