Job summary

George Fox University’s College of Nursing (CON) seeks a part-time Simulation Operations Specialist to support the logistical operations of the simulation lab at the Newberg Campus. The role runs up to 18 hours per week during the 9-month academic year (Aug 15–May 15) and begins as soon as September 2026.

The SOS will assist with audiovisual, IT, and simulation equipment, coordinate lab setups, and support SBEs for the BSN program.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • Physical ability to lift, move, maintain, and set up lab equipment up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Audiovisual Technology: operate and support AV hardware and software; set up and store equipment; ensure safe operation.
  • Education: support teaching apparatus and equipment; assist learners and staff with instructional media.
  • Healthcare: understand health professions principles; communicate with medical terminology; handle equipment safely.
  • Information Technology: set up and maintain IT lab equipment; perform updates and inspections.
  • Operations: stock control; maintain clean, safe storage areas; manage records for simulation operations.
  • Research & Evaluation: assist in maintaining records and data; support quality improvement projects.

Job description

George Fox University's College of Nursing (CON) announces a part time position (up to 18 hrs/week during the 9 month academic year between August 15 and May 15) for a Simulation Operations Specialist (SOS) who will support the logistical operations of the simulation lab. This position is set to begin as soon as September 2026.

About the Job:

The Simulation Operations Specialist supports the logistical preparation, implementation, and delivery of Simulation Based Experiences (SBEs) for the undergraduate Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program. This position is a part of the undergraduate CON simulation team which uses simulation best practices to inform the design, implementation, and evaluation of all on-campus SBEs to promote optimal student outcomes. This position reports to the simulation manager for the BSN program. The ideal candidate will have experience working in healthcare or healthcare simulation, strong audiovisual/computer skills, an eagerness to operate as part of a team of faculty, staff, and students, and attention to organization and detail. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Audiovisual Technology
    • Demonstrating a working knowledge of a range of common AV hardware and software.
    • Providing general technical support and troubleshooting for the AV system.
    • Setting up, operating, and storing AV equipment.
    • Demonstrating safe and effective operation of the AV system.
  • Education
    • Demonstrating a general knowledge of adult education theory.
    • Preparing, operating, and storing practical teaching apparatus and equipment.
    • Supporting the simulation center users in the use of instructional media and equipment.
    • Providing pre-briefing and/or orientation to the learning environment for learners, faculty, and other staff.
  • Healthcare
    • Demonstrating knowledge of relevant health professions principles and practices.
    • Communicating using medical terminology.
    • Demonstrating the safe operation of common medical equipment and associated resources.
    • Understanding and applying universal precautions when working with biological materials.
  • Information Technology
    • Setting up, operating, and storing IT equipment within the lab.
    • Demonstrating the correct usage of and providing general support and troubleshooting for all IT equipment within the lab.
    • Installing updates and performing scheduled maintenance on all IT assets within the lab.
    • Undertaking the inspections of IT equipment to monitor conditions and report failures.
  • Operations
    • Undertaking stock control, ensuring adequate security and levels of consumables and equipment are maintained.
    • Ensuring preparation and storage areas are maintained in a clean, safe, and orderly manner and comply with health and safety regulations.
    • Maintaining documents and records in support of simulation center operations.
  • Research & Evaluation
    • Assisting in the maintenance of routine records, updating databases, and analyzing routine data/information as required.
    • Supporting simulation-based patient safety and quality improvement projects.
  • Simulation
    • Setting up, operating, storing, and maintaining simulators, task trainers, and other simulation equipment.
    • Providing general support and troubleshooting for simulation technologies.
    • Contributing to and maintaining simulation technology-related documentation.
  • Theatrics & Staging
    • Applying, and removing moulage/special effects appropriate to the scenario to increase realism.
    • Preparing the simulation environment to accurately represent a clinical setting using real and simulated clinical supplies and equipment.
    • Portraying the role of a patient, family member, or other scenario participant as directed.
  • Communicating effectively and courteously with others, including employees, students, and the public, in a spirit of teamwork, respect and customer service.
  • By actions, words, and lifestyle, be a Christian role model to students, whether through casual contact or in a formal supervisory role.
  • Demonstrated experience working cross-culturally with respect, appreciation and humility.
  • Other duties as assigned.
We're looking for candidates who have:
  • A High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Critical thinking skills to solve predictable and sometimes unpredictable problems.
  • Physical ability to lift, move, maintain, and set up computer, audio-visual and simulation lab equipment weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States. This position does not offer visa sponsorship; therefore, only applicants who do not require sponsorship for employment visas, now or at any point in the future, should apply.
