Job summary

Aurora is seeking Summer 2027 Simulation Engineering Interns to join its Mountain View/San Francisco teams. You will contribute to sensor and behavioral simulation in a fast-paced, collaborative environment, using C++ and Python for tooling.

You will build and extend simulation components, validate results against ground-truth data, and help optimize performance of large-scale simulation pipelines. This internship emphasizes real-world impact and hands-on learning at Aurora.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in CS, graphics, physics or related field.
• Has built a simulator, renderer, physics engine, game engine, or robotics simulation.
• Personal or research-project experience with C++.
• Depth in specialization (rendering, GPUs, lidar, vehicle dynamics, motion planning, real-time sim, 3D content pipelines, or ML for 3D).
• Has verified a simulation or model's correctness systematically, not by visuals.

Responsibilities

• Build or extend simulation, rendering, or physics-modeling components used to validate the Aurora Driver
• Work in C++ (with Python for tooling) on performance-sensitive simulation code
• Reason about 3D math and geometry (sensor sim) or vehicle dynamics and behavior modeling (behavioral sim)
• Validate simulation output against measured or ground-truth data rather than relying on visual inspection alone
• Profile and improve performance of simulation pipelines running at scale
