Job summary

Aurora is seeking Summer 2027 Safety & Systems Engineering Interns to work on safety-critical driving systems. You will engage in safety analyses, develop tooling, and evaluate test coverage to ensure system safety and behavioral compliance.

Collaboration with engineering teams is key, with emphasis on rigorous methods and data-driven decisions. The role involves analyzing subsystems, contributing to safety process improvements, and communicating findings to stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a degree in systems/automotive/aerospace engineering or related field.
• Exposure to a system with real consequences is a plus.
• Familiarity with structured failure-analysis methods (FMEA, fault trees, STPA).
• Regular use of Python for analysis or tooling.
• Experience running an analysis as part of a trade study.
• Ability to reason about evidence and statistics beyond pass/fail.

Responsibilities

• Perform safety analysis to identify root causes across vehicle, system, or software subsystems.
• Build tooling to support safety-analysis or requirements-development processes.
• Analyze test coverage to ensure safety and behavioral requirements are met.
• Explore data sources to identify scenarios or system sensitivities.
• Communicate findings clearly to engineering stakeholders.
