Job summary

ProCare Therapy is seeking a full-time Sign Language Interpreter to support an elementary student near Aurora, IL. The role provides essential communication access in a mainstream classroom, following a 35-hour weekly schedule during the school calendar.

The interpreter will convert spoken content to ASL, support participation, and collaborate with teachers, families, and staff to meet the student’s communication needs while upholding confidentiality and professionalism.

Qualifications

• ASL proficiency required.
• EIPA score of 3.0 or higher required.
• PEL license for interpreting in schools, or eligibility with application in progress.
• Experience in elementary or K-12 school environments preferred.
• Commitment to inclusive, supportive educational atmosphere.
• Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide one-on-one sign language interpretation for an elementary student during all instructional and school activities.
• Accurately convey spoken content into ASL and interpret student responses for staff and classmates.
• Support classroom participation, engagement, and learning objectives.
• Collaborate with teachers, special education teams, and families to meet the student’s communication needs.
• Maintain professionalism and confidentiality at all times.

Job description

Make a meaningful impact by supporting young learners as a full-time Sign Language Interpreter in an elementary school setting near Aurora, IL. In this rewarding, school-based contract position, youll provide vital communication access for an elementary student in a mainstream classroom, working full-time hours (35 hours a week). Youll play a pivotal role in ensuring educational engagement and inclusion by facilitating clear, effective communication between the student, teachers, and peers throughout the school day.

Qualifications and Desired Experience:

• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
• Valid Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) score of 3.0 or higher
• Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) for interpreting in schools, or eligibility with an application in progress
• Experience in elementary or K-12 school environments preferred
• Demonstrated commitment to fostering an inclusive, supportive educational atmosphere
• Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills
