Job summary

Cross Country Education in Tacoma, WA is seeking a dedicated Sign Language Interpreter to provide essential communication access for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students and staff. You will interpret classroom instruction, meetings, testing, assemblies and activities, adapting methods to each student’s needs and supporting inclusion across the school day.

Required qualifications: Associates with EIPA 3.5+ (or Bachelors with EIPA 4.0+ or National Interpreting Certification); prior interpreter

Qualifications

• Associates degree with EIPA 3.5+ or higher required.
• Bachelor's degree with EIPA 4.0+ or National Interpreting Certification accepted.
• Experience in educational interpretation preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide sign language interpretation between Deaf/Hard of Hearing students and staff.
• Interpret classroom instruction, meetings, testing, assemblies and activities.

Position Overview

• Provide sign language interpretation between Deaf and Hard of Hearing students and teachers, staff, and other school community members across classroom and school-based settings.
• Interpret classroom instruction, discussions, meetings, conferences, testing, assemblies, field trips, and extracurricular activities while adapting communication methods to each students individual needs.
• Prepare for lessons and school activities by reviewing instructional materials and developing familiarity with subject-specific vocabulary.
• Collaborate with educators and support teams to promote effective communication and meaningful student participation throughout the school day.

Qualifications

• Associates degree + EIPA score of 3.5+ or
• Bachelors degree + EIPA score of 4.0+ or National Interpreting Certification
• Interpreter training program coursework and documented interpreting experience may be required depending on the assignment
• Experience interpreting in educational settings and supporting Deaf/Hard of Hearing students is strongly preferred
