Job summary

Tacoma Public Schools is seeking a part-time ESP Sign Language Interpreter to support Deaf and Hard of Hearing students in classrooms and related settings. The role is 0.875 FTE (7 hours/day) with a September 2026 start or sooner, requiring completion of an Interpreter Training Program and EIPA 4.0+ or RID certification preferred.

Compensation varies by experience and credentials, with classroom interpretation as a core duty.

Qualifications

• Completion of an Interpreter Training Program and EIPA 4.0+ or RID certification preferred.
• Ability to provide high-quality sign language interpretation for D/HH students.
• Experience interpreting in educational settings and collaboration with Teachers of the D/HH.

Responsibilities

• Interpret all communication between D/HH individuals and others to provide access to information.
• Prepare and study material to ensure accurate terminology for lessons.
• Adapt interpretations to diverse needs and contexts in classrooms and events.
• Collaborate with staff to support education goals and IEP requirements.
• Maintain confidentiality and professional conduct in all interpretations.
