Job summary

Rutherford County Schools in Murfreesboro is seeking a Sign Language Interpreter to provide interpretive services for deaf and hard of hearing students under the guidance of a Teacher for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing.

The ideal candidate must have at least a High School Diploma and be skilled in various signing methods. Previous experience in a public school setting is preferred. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently are essential.

Qualifications

• Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED.
• Must meet Tennessee Department of Education requirements for Educational Interpreters.
• Ability to use various signing methods (ASL, PSE, MCE, Contact Signing).
• Experience with deaf and hearing impaired students as an educational interpreter preferred.

Sign Language Interpreter

• Under the oversight of a Teacher for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, will provide sign language interpretive services to eligible deaf and hard of hearing students
• Shall have MINIMUM of a High School Diploma or GED and must meet at least one of the three requirements defined in the Tennessee Department of Education Employment Standards for Educational Interpreters. Rule 0520-1-03(10)
• Must be able to use a variety of signing methods (i.e. ASL, PSE, MCE, Contact Signing)
• Must be able to use technology to facilitate better understanding of content by the students
• Previous experience working with deaf and hearing impaired students as an educational interpreter in a public school setting preferred
• Able and willing to take direction be able to work independently
• Strong interpersonal skills and work as a team member with students, staff, and parents
• Must maintain regular attendance
• Must be able to interact with students
