Job summary

Boise Independent School District is seeking a qualified interpreter for deaf/hard-of-hearing students. The role focuses on interpreting and translating spoken English into appropriate communication modes within classrooms and related settings.

Qualifications

To qualify, newly hired employees must provide this form, completed by your former employer(s), to Human Resources no later than the date of their fingerprinting and appointment.

Index:01/I/02 ($25.39/hour) to 01/I/04 ($27.47/hour) depending on verified experience

*Transferring employees or former District employees hired into this role will be placed on the "I", "J" or "K" letter grade of theClassified Salary Schedule, but the initial step placement will vary based on a variety of factors.

Benefits Information:For positions that qualify, the District offers a benefit package that is valued at more than $10,000 annually. Benefits include Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance and Public Employees’ Retirement System (PERSI) and are provided to Classified employees who work at least half time (20 hours per week) or more in a regular position and to Certified employees with a .50 FTE or greater contract.

START DATE: 26-27 School Year

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required; college degree in education, Associates Degree from an accredited interpreter training program is preferred; and
  • Must havean EIPA score of at least 3.5 or hold a nationally recognized certification from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) or the National Association of the Deaf (NAD) level 3 or higher;
  • Oral and Cued Speech transliterators must hold certification from the RID or TECUnit (testing, evaluation and certification unit), respectively;
  • Must earn 80 hours (not credits) of continuing education units every 5 years;
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform as an effective and competent Interpreter.
  • Interpret/translate spoken English into an individually based, appropriate mode of communication for deaf/hard of hearing students
  • Proficient in the use of signing skills.
  • Proficient in reverse interpreting.
  • Perform interpreting/translation duties in the classroom, tutoring, supplemental or special instruction, conference, and related educational situations; interpret/translate one-to-one or one-to-group or classroom settings
  • Ability to correctly use English grammar.
  • Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with administrators, students, teachers, parents and patrons.
  • Competence is expected in performing the major duties and responsibilities as noted.
  • Two (2) years interpreting experience in an educational setting, preferably at the same school level for the position assigned; and any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform as an effective and competent Interpreter.
