Job description

Shop Technician 1 in Quality Inspection areas must have the ability to perform inspections, examinations, and tests according to documented procedures and industry practices.

The role is an individual contributor who conducts routine analyses and tests of various components of a quality control program in production lines, including tests of in-process materials and finished products to ensure conformity to specifications. The technician follows standard procedures, works under close supervision, and communicates information that requires little explanation or interpretation. Initially, work is in a "training status" with all work checked for quality and accuracy. Independent decision-making ability increases with experience.

Major Responsibilities
  1. Perform inspections, examinations, and tests according to documented procedures and industry practices. Be familiar with inspection tools and equipment, and proficient in their use.
  2. Mechanical inspections may include:
  • Physically measuring the product with measuring & testing equipment.
  • Operating 3D Coordinate Measuring Machines and 2D measurement systems.
  • Electrical inspections may include:
    • Operating electrical test equipment.
    • Operating test panels.
    • Visual inspections per design documents.
    • Crimping, soldering, and assembly verifications per design specifications and workmanship standards.
  • Visual inspections include looking for defects and verifying calibration status of inspection and measuring equipment.
  • Organize and manage work related to outgoing deliveries, including reviewing inspection files against customer requirements, and completing packaging and labeling.
  • Follow up quickly and consistently to resolve issues, set challenging goals, and seek continuous improvement opportunities. Recognize when guidance is needed and seek help proactively.
  • Complete and maintain site-specific safety training, including electrical safety, radiation safety, hazards communication, respiratory protection, lifting/handling, and PPE use. Obtain applicable certifications.
  • Knowledge

    a. Knowledge required:

    • 0-2 years relevant experience with electrical, mechanical, machining, or inspection skills. Knowledge of electrical or mechanical drawings and mathematics.
    • Preferred: Nuclear industry experience.

    b. Education/Experience:

    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • Preferred: Associate's degree related to electrical, mechanical, or machining fields, or equivalent.

    c. Licenses/Certificates:

    • Preferred: Inspection qualification and certification to ANSI N45.2.6, VT-1 visual inspection, mechanical inspection experience, and U.S. Department of Labor Journeyman Certification.
