Job description

Shop Technician 1 in Quality Inspection areas must have the ability to perform inspections, examinations, and tests according to documented procedures and industry practices.

The role is an Individual Contributor who conducts routine analyses and tests of various components of a quality control program in the production lines and tests of in-process materials and finished products to ensure conformity to specifications. He/she follows standard procedures, is closely supervised, and communicates information that requires little explanation or interpretation. The role works under general direction with close supervision in which specific instructions are provided on all new assignments. Initial assignments are in a "training status” and all work is to be checked for quality and accuracy. Independent decision-making ability increases as experience is gained.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES (List in order of importance)

1. Perform the inspections, examinations, and tests according to documented procedures and industry practices. The employee shall be familiar with the inspection tools and equipment to be used and shall be proficient in their use.
2. Mechanical inspections may include:
1. Physically measuring the product with measuring & testing equipment.
2. Operate 3D Coordinate Measuring Machine and 2D measurement systems.
3. Electrical inspections may include:
1. Operating Electrical Test Equipment.
2. Operating Test Panels.
3. Visual inspections per design documents.
4. Crimp, Solder, and assembly verifications per design specifications and workmanship standards.
4. Visual inspections include:
1. Looking for defects in the product.
2. Determine if the calibration status of inspection and measuring equipment is current; that the measuring and test equipment (M&TE) is in proper condition; and that the inspection, examination, and test procedures are approved.
3. Organize and manage work related to outgoing deliveries including scanning/reviewing inspection files against customer requirements, completing packaging and labeling requirements.
4. Ability to follow up quickly and consistently to bring issues to closure, set challenging goals and achieve measurable results. Ability to proactively resolve problems and seek opportunities for continuous improvement. Ability to recognize when clarity and guidance are needed. Willing to seek help and use a questioning attitude when needed.
5. Ability to successfully complete and maintain applicable site specific safety training including Electrical Safety; Radiation safety; Hazards communication; Respiratory protection; Lifting/Handling; PPE Use. Complete certifications as applicable; train to job applicable procedures.

I. KNOWLEDGE

a. Describe the knowledge required to perform the major responsibilities.

• Minimum Relevant Experience: 0-2 years relevant experience with demonstrated electrical, mechanical, machining or inspection skills. Specific knowledge of electrical or mechanical drawing, or machining plus required mathematics.
• Preferred: Nuclear Industry experience.

b. Identify specialized education and/or experience requirements.

• High School degree or equivalent.
• Preferred: Associates Degree related to electrical, mechanical or machining, or equivalent.

c. Describe any licenses and/or certificates required.

• Preferred for applicable positions: Qualification and certification for Inspection to ANSI N45.2.6 Certification to Visual VT-1 Mechanical Experience with Inspection of electrical parts.
• Preferred for applicable positions: United States Department of Labor Journeyman Certification.
